    You know, at the very least, I could at name an opponent for everyone of them champs in 1994, but looking at the modern list, I counted 40+ I have never even heard of.

    I will admit in the 21st century, I am at best a casual fan, but still that is shocking, that even casual fans care so little about the modern product.:oops:

    And the sad thing is, if you really sat down and thought about it, we actually live in times which are of better standards than what we think. For instance, we the next month should look something this:

    Heavy: Wlad vs Vitali

    Light Heavy: Pascal vs Hopkins

    Middle: Cotto v Bute

    Welterweight: Mayweather v Pacquiao;

    Lightweight: Marquez v Soto

    Featherweight: John v Lopez

    Bantamweight: Moreno v Donaire

    Flyweight: Wonjongkam v Segura

    Then if the contenders actually fought each other, it wouldnt be long before we sorted out who was and wasnt of world class standard and we could actually test our champions (without them having to win 3 or 4 world titles before we even know if they are world class), and even benefit from having some older fighters come out of retirement and really test some of these guys. With just those champions, you would know that anyone who wins these titles is the real deal. In fact anyone who jumps ahead of the pack and earns a title shot would also be the real deal.

    From an Australian perspective (for example) with guys like Mundine, Green even Darchinian and others forced to beat other top 10 guys to even earn a shot, You will see huge stock placed in National and Commonwealth titles. In turn, this would elevate these titles and you would actually see some very good and exciting national level fights that would all get more media attnetion. In australia for example you would currently have a situation where the current World champion Danny Green almost certainly wouldnt be good enough to hold a national title (too big for light heavyeight and too small to face Kali Meehan). You would have Vic Darchinian as a beast at Flyweight, taking on all comers at the weight and being a true champion to look up to Soliman as a great middleweight champion, who would have challenged for Commonwealth honours and probably faced Mundine and Green in great light heavyweight 3 or more fight series.

    All in all, the fight scene would actually be pretty exciting, and because of this, there would be more interest in fights, more money from TV. And this would mean that the ranks would swell much more than it currently is.
