I`d have to go with Macias in this matchup, just far too complete a boxer-puncher for the powerful but limited Zamora. Raton had a good defense and moved around the ring very well, and he would use his jab to good effect against Zamora who was always vulnerable to a good trombone man. Alfonso would have a puncher`s chance against Raul but barring him landing a fight ending haymaker I see him getting outboxed and likely stopped sometime in the last third of the fight.
To be clear, you'd have him outboxing Zamora for the most part with movement, or being able to handle Zamora's firepower in close to mid range and out-punching him? I actually think Zamora had very good skills overall, with his punching power being the deciding factor if it came down to a punch-out. I was led to this conclusion having seen how El Raton was taken out by Billy Peacock in their rematch. Could be wrong.
Macias would be using movement and his jab from mid to long range, he wouldn`t be engaging Alfonso in a punch out thats for sure, he was too smart and skilled for that. Don`t base your opinion of Macias on the Peacock return bout... he was a very good boxer with a great sense of distance and timing and would have outboxed Zamora from long range. I have footage of Macias from his bouts two bouts against Filli Nava and his fights against Larry Bataan, Chamroen Songkitrat and Nate Brooks, and going by that footage I`d have to favour him over Zamora stylewise. Alfonso would always have a puncher`s chance, but nine times out of ten I says he gets outboxed handily while giving Raton a few hariy moments here and there.
I also see Macias outboxing Zamora. Zamora does come in and applies alot of pressure & has terrific power. But Macias is more of a complete boxer & would handily stay away for a fifteen round decision IMO.
