He did well with Camacho and Paz because they were not Leonard and they fought in front of him a lot of the time, and Duran is always great if you are in his range. You fight in his range and in front of him he could beat Tyson maybe. He was that good in that way. Hector? I like young Hector and always did. His handspeed was incredible. But at 160 or 168? although Hector at 130 and PreRosario was great. Rosario sort of affected his confidence to be the complete fighter he could be. I don't think Duran was that old when he lost to Benitez, and when he fought Ray the second time he was only a few months older and only 29 years old. When he fought Benitez he was only 30. He fought until he was 50.
That’s a classic Freudian slip. Indeed, Duran’s position on food was quite probably the root cause of his inability to “pursue a mover.”
I know. I have been trying to lose weight lately and food has been on my mind. That has to be the answer to that one.
Well they were much younger than he was, they were respected former champions, they still defeated most of the bigger men they fought and both were fast. Who exactly excels against bigger men the caliber of a Ray Leonard ?
The Detroit News said after the fight that HAGLER MAY OR MAY NOT BE THE BETTER FIGHTER BUT HE IS THE BETTER MIDDLEWEIGHT.Well put..
I don't know how great Vinny was.. Hector was great at one point, but he let his career go a little after Rosario.. These were good wins against Duran and Ray I guess when they were in their 40s or near 50. I really don't know. No Camacho never was Leonard caliber..
Well Tommy fought a stupid fight. A memorable fight but very dumb. He and Marvin gambled and it came out well for Marvin, who had the better chin. So it was a better gamble for Marvin, although Hearns hit harder than Marvin. Wouldn't it be great if GGG and Canelo came out like that on Sat. I doubt it. It has not happened much in 33 years since.
Not sure why this thread has gone on this long. Marvin was always going to track down Hearns eventually. Didn't matter if it was the 3rd, 10th or 12th... he was going to get to him.
Hey, I didn't see your comment there. Nice comeback. Hey all boxers have the issues with food, but good try with another Duran excuse. Seriously. Most of us like food I don't know how fighters can be so disciplined, but I guess they have to or they can lose.
Yeah - I couldn't resist that one, really. Duran could be undisciplined. But, imagine how high he was on his victory over Leonard. He went off the reservation, in terms of excess - and he paid the price for it, later.
You wrote that Wh You wrote in that post that Whitaker beat an atg in Azumah at 135. Not only are you a degenerate, pathological liar, but a stupid one as well.
I thought you wrote that Azumah wasnt an atg at 135 you pathethic, degenerate liar. Seriously, shame on you. Seriously. Because of your constant lying, you are clearly the worst poster on the Classic, you degenerate liar. I dont know how you look at yourself in the mirror, but you are the worst.
Yes he did. Whitaker beat a better ATG fighter at 135 or below 147 than Duran ever did. That is a fact. You are looking rather low. I really mean that. The way you act on this message board. You came out here trying to say something about me, and the way you are is ridiculous. This shows that you really were not self aware like you thought. The way you talk is sort of worse than a degenerate, it is embarrassing for you. You started an argument with someone you don't know questioning me, And the way you are is being displayed here in a not too flattering a way. And you like to shift tactics. The first thing you tried it didn't work about me being an excusemaker because I am factual. The liar thing didn't work because there is nothing there for that and anyone who hears me knows I deal in facts and truths. The fact is Duran is not top ten ATG not in a logical way or at least a way you can measure-taking his wins into account. Oh wait, you don't think he is either. Or so you say.
Apparently you don't think too much at all. I think you know you lost the discussion so now you feel going crazy or at least acting that way is another way to be on here. I suppose that is another way to act out here on the message board. Nothing seems too low for you. Your intent was to show something about me and ironically this has shown something about your character and integrity. I am not sure why you picked a boxing message board to demonstrate this.
````````````````````````` I know. I saw it later and it was funny. Although food can hurt any fighter. Hearns would weight 180 between fight when he was at 154. Although I don't see it like that with Duran and excesses. Everyone has excesses. I am sure he wanted to win the rematch, but he was not going to with Ray using his lateral movement like that and giving him angles, shifting, then when Duran cornered him getting out and countering. He learned he cannot sit and fight Duran as he said he wanted to. He said in 1989 "I wanted to beat that man at his own game. I almost did." Duran lost to Leonard,Benitez and Hearns at 154 because he was not good enough regardless of the excuses he made. It takes a lot to beat those guys.
