These forums develop weird conventional wisdoms about certain fighters that aren't really based on logic. People love Sultan Ibragimov. He's considered one of Wlads best wins. People hate Ray Austin. Wins over him by Wlad, Stiverne, and Solis are disparaged.

In truth, though, the only thing that distinguishes Ibragimov from Austin is he happened to pick up a belt. On sheer resume, they are about equal. First, they actually fought each other, and the result was a draw. Second, both had wins over some nice journeyman that's not really worth getting into or debating. However, as far as quality name performances against contenders or fringe contenders, Austin drew against Larry Donald and Lance Whitaker(who did lose to Ibragimov), and beat Golota, Williamson, and Beck. Apart from Austin and Whitaker, Ibragimov fought and beat shot Holyfield (who had long since lost to Donald) and Shannon Briggs, who has yet to beat anyone notable since then. Now, Austin lost more than Ibragimov (in part because he fought a lot more), but Austin had more wins or draws against contenders or fringe contenders.

Point is, both were legit hws, and its just a weird example of how irrational conventional wisdom pops up on these boards around certain fighters.

So you think Austin put up a similar performance against Klitschko as Ibragimov did?

They both lost. Austin got blown out, yeah, but its not like the Wlad Iggy fight was close. And, for the sake of argument, lets say it was. It's not like that one thing cancels out the rest of their respective careers.

I disagree. Wlad couldn't figure out Iggy in 12 rounds. Austin was destroyed early.

Sultan won a title off Briggs because he won the last 30 seconds out of 36 minutes against Siarhei Liakhovich.

Briggs suffering from chronic asthma and weighing a career high whopping 275 pounds then handed the title over to Sultan being totally unable to throw a punch.
The state of Briggs was embarrassing and Sultan timid performance was even worse.
He had a glass heart and a glass chin. Compounded even further by throwing in the towel in his prime and never coming back.

That poster is the bottom of the birdcage. Wish I could find the thread where he claimed to own several night clubs and was exposed as a lying scumbag.

Sultan was terrific, Austin a lousy plodder. It was just that a big man has certain advantages over a little one. It is the same kind of thing people don't get when they brag about how Bowe beat Holyfiled. Great, a 6'5", 320 pound man beat a crusier.

Sultan was an Olympic silver medalist and WBO champ. Austin was neither. Ibragimov beat two world champs and gave Wlady a tough fight. Austin beat no world champs and was blown out by Klit.

OP makes a stupid thread by skipping over Sultan's accomlishments.

At the end of the day, Sultan was an Olympic silver meddalist, WBO champ, master boxer with power, fast hands admired by Mike Tyson, and a southpaw stance. He has excellent wins over Whitiker, Briggs and Holyfield (even is old), and gave Wlad one of his most difficult fights. And he did all that retiring around 30-ish.

Yeah, sorry he did it all as a guy who was barely over six foot, and had one tough fight against a guy who was 6'6".

And still Sultan was floored by Austin and could only walk away with a draw.
Harold Sconiers beat Ray Austin ffs :nut

And he didn't give Wlad a good fight either. Did he even win a round? He did nothing.

Austin gave Wlad far more problems and was winning the fight up until round 5.

Wlad had to rough house him to death to wear him down so he could spark him out.

    ydksab.

Edit . I was thinking Calvin Brock.

So you admit that you don't even know what fighter you were talking about yet you wrote several comments to bash him because he lost to Klitschko. Pathetic.
