Tragic ending to a great fight - the type of boxing I love to watch, just all out war. Watch mancini charge out for round 14. This was the reason why boxing changed from 15 to 12 rounds as another posted has stated on here tonight R.I.P. Koo Kim For anyone who didn't know koo Kim suffered a brain injury and died 4 days later in hospital His mother and the referee also commited suicide in the months following

Fair enough In case anyone wants to know the story there is a document on youtube, here is part 1 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se93JWymo1I[/ame]
Changing the fights from 15 to 12 has helped the sport in my eyes. Who knows how many more boxers would have been affected if it was still 15 rounds a match. RIP Duk KOO KIM.
only 1:00 between rounds, as far as I know. 15 rounds really separated the champions from the contenders. Yes, fighters were at greater risk for injury, but 15 rounds was better for the sport. I'd be curious to see the stats, whether the serious injury and mortality figures have dropped since the switch to 12 rounds. As stated above, this fight was a terrible tragedy. Mancini was never the same afterwards.
It's been stated that this fight led to the change in rounds and weigh-in procedures, but many have disagreed. This was back in the network TV age, and 12 rounds with intros and interviews is easier to fight in an hour than 15 rounds. People have also said the weigh-in changes were because of the money lost on the Spinks-Muhammad rematch debacle. Who knows, maybe it was a combo of both safety and monetary factors. Fights like this I try to avoid, but I did see a clip of the ending.
I watched the fight on National TV (CBS) the day after Pryor KO'd Arguello down in Florida in Nov. of '82...... I have a rough copy of "Mancini-Kim" on video.... I still review it.... I'm kool with it... This was not a mismatch at all, but rather a very hard fight for both guys... Mancini took control after round 10... It was a great action fight.... Kim's corner should've stopped it in the corner after round 13.... It was not referee Richard Greene's fault with what happened to Kim in round 14.... No, sir.... Greene was too harsh on himself and blew his brains out in Vegas in the summer of 1983....... The fool.... MR.BILL
