Ray Leonard talks about his biggest fights

Dude just has none of Duran's charisma and spontaneity. Comes off as scripted robot phony. It drives him crazy too. He is just another forgotten fighter to ave sports fans while in Panama Roberto Duran is a legend with stadiums named after him. Karma was a ***** andcorrect to LEONARD

 

Leonard was better looking than Duran even house wives liked Ray, I remember my mum coming in to watch Ray v Hagler in `87 he was magnetic because he looked like a movie star but I agree that it was all an act looking back and he also seems more introverted than I can rember as a kid, I live in Britain and Ray was invited on a big talk show in England proving he`s much more of a star these days in Britain than Duranis, only boxing fans know who Duran is in Britain but more people here still know who Ray is so I guess it depends on where you go, I always thought Ray had a kind of Jack Nicholson charisma about him.

 

Duran is an international icon though. Hell, he was sleeping in his presidents mansion. You should read Duran's autobiography Mark.

I didn`t know that, I knew he was a huge star in America and Panama but not globally, but he isn`t that well known in Britain where I live which is why I probably didn`t know about his global fame.

 

Leonard had good looks but much of his persona was created by the media. I agree with Morlocks that Duran had the real charisma.

 

Outside of Panama, Leonard is more well known than Duran. So in 99,9999% of the world or some such.

 

Jesus, all these mancrushes on Duran... Firs post in a thread about Leonard, a Duran fan boy professes his love for Roberto. Perhaps a new record? A bit pathetic, anyhow, to be frank.

 

Duran did do a UK tour in 88.

 

Leonard seems to be playing it more humble nowadays ... I've seen/heard interviews where he says he's no longer "Sugar Ray" Leonard - just Ray Leonard. He's gone through his share of crap, and is self-admittedly responsible for a lot of it - the drugs, the failed/abusive marriages. His autobiography is pretty blatant about all that, so maybe this quieter persona is a result of that ... in his heyday, though, he was aggravating. Every move seemed too scripted, too polished - again, maturity may have worn some of that down. If so, good -
