There are other ways to stop a fighter than by KO to the chin. Hopkins was never hurt by Calzaghe but struggled to make it to the end of the fight because he was being outworked. The Leonard who fought Haggler conserved his energy and came on in flurries at the last 30 seconds of each round, something he sometimes did in other fights too. Calzaghe would not permit him to do that but would press him from the opening bell. I have six fighters that I generally regard as the most naturally talented of all time (SRR, Ali, SRL, SweetPea, RJJ and Floyd), SRL is one of them and I regard him as one of the greatest welters of all time (SRR was the greatest). However, Leonard was not one of the top five MWs of all time. Calzaghe is the second greatest SMW of all time IMO, and with the difference between same day weigh-ins and previous day weigh-ins, Joe entered the ring 15-20 lbs heavier than the Leonard of Leonard Hagler. If this became a stamina issue Joe has the edge there, both in relative and absolute terms. I'm not saying he's going to do a Mike Tyson on Leonard but he would beat him and quite probably stop him. When a fight gets too one sided, the ref steps in.
