No he didn't beat him the first time that's your opinion it was a close fight that could have gone either way but PBF won it. PBF owned the first half of that fight period. JLC got started too late. Lastly no I don't think JLC is better than Duran.
Fact is if an in shape Floyd had that much trouble twice against Castillo, how can you think he has a chance against in shape Duran ? :?
Busy reading it right now. It's better than the Arguello book by the same author. I've watched boxing basically my whole life but I never really 'got' Duran. I've seen all his big fights and some not-so-big fights and own a VHS documentary of him. Followed all discussions on the man here and elsewhere. But I never really got the fanatical worship this guy generates. I dunno if it's the book or something in him I am only noticing now, but I am finally beginning to understand the adulation and fervent support. I still cannot say I am a massive fan but I can understand now why many are.
PBF was injured going into that fight not to mention it was his first fight at 135 against a a guy who outweighed him by 12 pounds who was arguably the best LW of his era. It was close but he did win and won the rematch to. I think he would have a chance because Duran lost to lesser fighters than PBF multiple times. Not to mention Duran had short arms and had trouble against movers and good defense. I happen to think PBF is all wrong for Duran and someone like Pea Whitaker for example would absolutely school him.
But actually the judges scored the 2nd fight Floyd - Castillo closer than the 1st one (115-113). Whether you believe floyd has an injury or not in their 1st fight, you can not deny that he had a lot of trouble with Castillo. Like Castillo, Duran is an agressive fighter who punches to the body. As you agreed that duran is clearly ther better of the two fighters, it is still not clear to me why you think Floyd could have won that fight.
Yes he had trouble with him but he still found a way to win. Not every fight are you going to shut someone out. I think PBF could have won because he holds advantages in key areas of this match up that people love to overlook most importantly reach reflexes and ring IQ. The reach advantage in this fight would be huge PBF knows how to use his reach dictate distance and range arguably better than anyone of this era. PBF would use that against Duran no doubt he would get off first and be gone before Duran could get off forcing him to reset time and time again. This type of fight would frustrate Duran he doesn't like to fight like that. PBF would refuse to fight Duran's fight and he would fight his period. Add in the fact that PBF doesn't fade and is a 15 round fighter with sound defense and you have a recipe for disaster for Duran. Facing a guy with superior reach cat like reflexes who would beat him to the punch from the outside and be gone with a high ring IQ who can adjust who doesn't fade with ATG defense is a nightmare scenario for Duran.
That's too bad, l was considering this book. As for Duran when l was younger l never really appreciated his skills as when l first started watching boxing it was because of Hagler. But the more fights l saw of Duran the more l became a fan.
Losing to de Jesus, Benitez, the homeless English guy, and quitting against Leonard is much more admirable than a close win over a prime Castillo while injured.
You get back don't get mad at me you're a Duran apologist. Duran was out of shape for the rematch but SRL didn't fight his fight in the first fight. You can't have it both ways apologist.
So who in your mind beats Mayweather? because as far as I can tell the answer is no one other than perhaps Hearns. Hopefully you have at least have SRL beating him.
At WW Hearns would have beat him no doubt an absolute stylistic nightmare for him. SRR at WW beats him. SRL I would possibly lean to, naturally bigger man. Pea Whitaker would be a dream match up for me personally but a pick em fight.
