I'd expect Barkley to outwork Leonard at this point, and win a unanimous decision. At this juncture in his career,Leonard could be outworked by an aggressive type such as Iran. In their third bout,Roberto Duran just stood back and let Sugar do his thing. Barkley would n't.

Leonard gets bludgened to the canvas & stays there:D

How the **** is an old slow leonard going to outbox the younger & bigger Barkley:lol: Just go watch the Leonard/Hearns II fight for about how 2 fighters would look if they fought in a tar-pit!!

Leonard would never engage in any contest with a younger fighter of that time not unless they'd have to cut a leg off to make Leonards ridiculous public catch-weight contract stipulations juxtaposed with the "PRIVATE" agreement $1million dollor fine's that would also be in force if yer dared come in an ounce over what Leonard wanted. Leonard would have Barkley weigh-in at 154.

Leonard was ringmaster of the seniors tour & would never jeapardise the Millions of $$$$$ he knew he could gleam from fighting Duran again on his own terms in 89. The likes of Michael Nunn & Iran Barkley would have thrashed Leonard to an inch of his life just like Terry Norris did & that punch that Barkley hit Duran with in the 8th round that spun him like a top would have had Leonard laid out sucking air like a stranded fish:deal

Leonard was finished as a top of the line fighter of the 1st grade after Kevin Howard humiliated him in 84 & Leonard admitted that on camera. The only way back for Leonard was to fight older foes who had slipped to such a degree that he thought there was a chance of victory & even more chance of victory if you can weight-rig those fights.:deal

Anyone thinking that Leonard could beat a young gun of that era are ****in IDIOTS & Leonard ai'nt no idiot as he would'nt fight them not untill he had no choice (Terry Norris) after he ****ed up at the Mirage against Duran when he ran off into the desert night with Steve Wynn's millions of $$$$$$ & that was the end of the Leonard as no Vegas casino would touch him again risking being milked in such a fashion especially as all the High Rollers that night at the Mirage in 89 all ****ed off next door to Caesars Palace in disgust to drop there $$$$$ at what they had just witnessed by his thief in the night performence against Duran.

Iran Barkley would smash the **** out of Leonard & stop him no later than 8 on a level playing field but Leonard never would fight Barkley on a fair & even playing field would he:bart

All we need to know is Leonard schooled the same Duran who beat Barkley, schooled him, made him look foolism, and prior to that he made him poop his pants

The Sugar man pulls off a UD win. He would take no chances, and use his speed to win. There'd be moments where he would be troubled though. Barkley is a big, strong guy and aggressive. Even Nunn wasn't able to dominate him.

Actually I was thinking Leonard of the Hagler fight. After that I'm not so sure, don't think he quite regained the form.

    Not sure about this fight.
Of course Leonard was the skillful boxer but he was knocked down by Don Lalonde and twice by Tommy Hearns. Barkley might have overwhelmed him.

Leonard's ability to take a punch was still good in those fights though. He went down but wasn't close to being stopped. More worrying was his rather leaky defense by that time.

What you need to take from this discussion Duranimal is that Barkley was a bum and a pathetic win. Would Duran make my top100 of all time? :nono Because your hero loses to every half decent boxer who used stick and move tactics. Laing is forever Duran's daddy and a far greater boxer. Amir Khan would beat Duran 120-108 :yep

I think Ray would closely outpoint Iran. He still was pretty quick and Barkley wasn't quite good enough to capitalize on Ray's downhill slide well enough to pull out a victory.

    Agreed.

Leonard is not going to absorb punishment like a Duran in order to land a punch. If Ray eats those body shots he will just do everything in his power to avoid absorbing anymore. But not a lose the battle but win the war type fight. And I sure don't see Ray having the power on his punches at middle to prevent Barkley from winging away. Barkley is the rare breed that just does not discourage easily and will not play the game of falling for feints on the outside. Ray will make him look bad a few rounds just like Olijade did, but you don't discourage Barkley and he'll keep firing away and force Leonard to fight at a much higher pace than he wants.
