depends on the gavilian that shows up. let's say the gavilan that twice took robinson to the absolute brink...i'm going on a limb and say a prime gavilan takes a UD over leonard over 15. chin, footwork, variety of punches was top notch. I think he has more in the tank over 15 (not that leonard had ANY real stamina issues but it's relative) and pulls out the UD over the championship rounds
I see it like this, also. This could be a contest between the second and third best welterweights of all time, imo. Ray Leonard could have been the 147 lb champ for ages,if he had n't have had the retina problem. Kid Gavilan could have dominated the division if it had n't have been for Robinson.
I don't see Leonard standing in front of Gavilan in this one. SRR > SRL, but I think Leonard had better lateral movement and more importantly was more inclined to use it. This is a different fight than Gavilan vs SRR I think. I see Leonard darting in and out and side to side and dictating the exchanges. Gavilan's class keeps it very close but I just think Leonard had the tools and mentality to dictate this fight and take a close decision.
