McGirt, Norris, Blocker showed Brown could be comfortably outboxed so you have to favor Leonard strongly. Interesting match up though. I could definitely see Leonard getting cocky and catching one of those left hooks which could make it interesting.

Yeah, Leonard's chin could be tested a little even by medicore fighters, as it was when Finch snapped him to reality. And Brown could really, really bang.

Brown had been fighting for almost a decade by the time he met McGirt, and on the flipside of being outboxed by Norris he also completely dominated Terry the first time around.

Leonard had one of the best chins going. He took some very decent blows from Hearns at 147 and would comfortably take anything Brown dished out. Leonard by solid decision at worst.

I think his chin was solid. Not undentable even by average fighters.

But his combination of reflexes, ring savvy and other attributes made it more then the sum of it's parts.

Yes, I have to give it to Leonard as well. Brown was a good fighter, but he was not in Leonard's class.

Well i get the impression you give Brown a decent shot at stopping Leonard. I give him none personally. I think he's overrated as a banger actually.

Much as I sometimes hate Sugar Ray's ass...on this one,he outboxes and outmanuovers Simon...hitting him with some hard shots while dancing to a comfortable decision...Even he would'nt go balls to the wall with Simon Brown..

    I say 118-110 Leonard

I think Simon Brown was good enough to sting Leonard and **** him off. Leonard TKO 8.

On a sidenote, I don't think Brown is overrated as a banger.. I spent a good portion of my youth watching Simon pound the **** out of top welterweights, and frankly he was dangerous..If anything, he is underrated and in many circles forgotten in the grand scheme of the welter picture of the 1980's.

On a different note however, I agree completely with you that Leonard would have to be the heavy favorite. While Brown had excellent handspeed, power, composite punching ability, and a sturdy chin to boot, he was also suseptible to being outboxed by the elites. Of all the men who either troubled or defeated Brown, none of whom were in Leonard's league when it came down to pure boxing. Brown was one of my favorite welterweights, but Leonard is in a category above.. Its as simple as that....

Just a side note, I'm pretty sure Leonard and Brown sparred later in Leonard's career.
