Agreed. Although some might say Robinson fought in a stronger era, which he did. It's about taking their records and comparing them. Robinson was tested more against better fighters over a longer period of time. Lets not forget that Robinson was still a damn fine fighter deep into his mid-30's. He also has a superb resume.

I feel Mayweather matches up well against old-timers when it comes to skill and defense. When it comes to outright greatness with the elite, nope.

I speak two languages: English and gibberish! My hats is off to anyone who can jump on a forum like this and express themselves as well as you do, with English being their second language.

By the way, there are several books that will really give you some good insight into boxing. Among them is "Corner Men" by Fried, "In This Corner" by Heller, "Sweet Science" by Liebling of course. There was another one written by someone other than Bert Sugar who used objective measures to rank the best fighters ever... it was an impressive piece but the title escapes me.

You know your stuff... not so sure about some of the concurring opinions out here though.

My point is that before someone makes a top 10 all-time list, they really should be literate on boxing since at least 1920 ... otherwise they should rank the top 10 since 1980 or whatever they know.

It is sheer negligence to leave out an Ezzard Charles, Harry Greb, or even Sam Langford without good reason (one good reason is the dearth of film) -and a good reason is not "I've never heard of them."

I'm not so sure about Mayweather's chances against Fritzie Zivic, never mind the killers back then.

Play devil's advocate about Leonard's major wins. In other words, instead of just looking at marquee value of the names, look closely and find fault with each major conquest:

    Benitez
    Duran I-III
    Hearns I, II
    Hagler

All Leonard fans please take note. This is what is called an "objectivity test."

    Hi Stonehands89.

Thanks for your kind words I appreciate it. I will check out those books, I like to read about boxing, so far I have read mostly about Muhammad Ali (my favourite boxer).
Checked out boxrec.com an impressive site, good to have when I need to update my collection of fight´s.

About Charles, I will recall that I read somewhere that when he fought Marciano the first time many people thought he won the fight, the second time he wasn´t as sharp.
it is an impressive record he has! (boxrec.com is good, thanks Stonehand89)
    All the best

Ezzard Charles is like a French cuisine... it takes time to appreciate him! Forget the Marciano fights. Charles was not a natural HW; he flourished as a LHW and did well as a MW... you'll soon know that no one beats Archie Moore AND Charlie Burley without being exceptional.

Good to see SH89 taking a new poster under his wing, nobody better for it and a real gentleman.

So someone who's just been into boxing for the last 6 or 7 years doesn't have the right to do a list? I know what you mean. If someone goes back further into history then their list will hold a stronger arguement. Everyone ranks their 'pound for pound' greats on what they know, if they never they would be cheating and doing false placings.

I'm afraid some people out there have never heard of Langford and Greb. People on the general, some probably. How can they put fighters on a list when they know next to nothing about them? It's just simple and basic what I have covered.

Once that person who has followed the sport for only 6 or 7 years gets to 15-16 years and broadens his scope then his list will change over time.

I've only noticed The Predator around here for the last few days maybe week or so, but he seems like a nice guy and all round articulte poster. Hopefully he'll join the club of Leonard 'defenders' too, amongst the sheer onslaught of Roosters hollow jibing there has to a bunch of objective people, every once in a while who recognise the positives of Leonards boxing career (with the inclusion of beating up on the wifebeating Hagler). ;) :p

Super Greg Page would be a wrecking ball amongst this current era of HW's, perhaps only Wlad would stand in his way of total domination. :good

Ps: I think Larry would've decisioned Greg prime-for-prime, but unfortunately cause of **** Don King and politics and other things we'll never know. :-(
