Ramirez was a hell of a fighter and fought much better guys and then gets shut out by Mancini ? It makes zero sense ... that one always smelt terrible to me ...

Trouble is he got his head handed to him by a lot of those much better guys as well as by Mancini.I mean watching Macini against Arguello i hardly think it was beyond him to give someone like Edwin Rosario(who stopped developing and opted to rely on power before he even fought for a title) a tough fight either.

No doubt mancini was matched safely once he won a title, however.

A prime, early Ray would beat the likes of Casamayor, Corrales and Castillo for mine.

Arguello was a blown up jr. lightweight already past his best days at lightweight. In addition, he was a slow starter and a slow puncher, both style flaws that helped Mancini's style ... Rosario was a murderour punching, fast starting lightweight that would have blasted Ray out in a couple of rounds .. In addition to Rosario, Ramirez gave Arguello a tremendous fight , losing a narrow split decision ...

Ramirez fought Rosario on even terms ... the fact that he was diced by Camacho and Whitaker mean little as he was outboxed by two great lightweights in their primes .. that has little to do w Ray stylistically ...

I happen to like Ray and know he was extremely tough and well conditioned and exceptionally strong .. I just find that the guy who struggled wih a KIm and beaten up by Bramble easily shutting out Ramirez .. something was simply funny about that fight to me ...

Sure it could be a blowout. It could also be another case of Rosario doing well early, failing to get the guy out and struggling the rest of the way.

Ramirez efforts in those fights(or any other) don't show me anything to think his fight with Mancini was dodgy.

Rosario , in his prime, only had this happen against Ramirez who himself only had one stoppage loss in over 100 fights and a prime Chavez ... I just don't see Ray in that category of fighter ... He struggled with Kim, he struggled w Romero, He was rocked in the first round against Frias and thrashed twice by Bramble ... Ray got hit way too much and he bleed way too freely ...
