Rosario would have been a different kettle of fish altogether than Juan Ramirez for Mancini.....he would have taken Boom Boom out of there before the 7th round, and hard too.
Tend to agree. One needed a cast iron chin against Rosario who had a truly tremendous right hand. I remember watching a faded version take on the fancied Loreto Garza in his hometown and just destroying Garza with right hands. I liked Mancini but his style plays to Rosario's strengths in my opinion.
I could see this either way really. A Rosario KO could happen, sure, but one thing that somehow always gets ignored in this matchup is the key to beating Rosario; you get in his chest and swarm him. What better way to describe Mancini? I'm gonna go with Mancini here by KO, though I could also envision him catching something hard on the way in and going down.
Rosario destroys him. Mancini was a glorified clubfighter who got lucky to have a good run at the top. Rosario was a near ATG, a completely different level of fighter.
Yeah, I'm a bit biased because I love Rosario's style and hate Mancini's but I don't see Mancini's toughness and roughness as being enough to help him overcome the talent gap. Rosario's movement, handspeed, power, and balance are too much for him. Rosario batters him en route to mid-round stoppage. Edit: Disagree that Mancini was a "glorified clubfighter"
What a load BS, Mancini was a very good tough fighter, who gave a prime Arguello a very tough fight Rosario was also a good fighter but he's not even close to an ATG.
I wish Ray weren't thrown into that early 15 Rnd mismatch vs Alexis. He was only like 20 and was never the same. His earlier showing vs Kid Dynamite was one of the more impressive displays I've ever seen from a teen fighter.
Actually, Rosario wasn't "above" Ray. Just a different style. You've been around long enough, you should be able to understand more of what you see.
It's true Rosario didn't utilize his boxing skills enough and tended to trade too much. It is also true he had trouble with strong, straight ahead guys. But, he was a class above Mancini. Mancini would get hit too much and his strength would keep things interesting, but I think Rosario would grind him down for a late stoppage, probably on cuts.
Rosario wasn't always all that busy, so Ray may fare well in the opening rounds, but sooner or later Edwin is going to start tagging him hard. Busted up and bleeding, Mancini will be stopped somewhere between 7-10.
Its a pick em fight. Rosario with the faster hands and more refined movement lands early and often. Mancini comes on in the mid to late rounds with his bullying strength and cuts off the ring. Down the stretch its going to be close.
