How does Mancini handle Castillo's size? That's the biggest question I have. Mancini is rough and can certainly hang with JL on the inside, but can he win a sustained battle in the later rounds. Castillo is a drained WW who is 5"7 vs Mancini at 5"4 and JL has 4 inch reach advantage. JL was a slow starter and I see Mancini being quicker with his hands and winning the early rounds. Castillo in his prime had an educated jab and would follow his punches in to crowd and blast the body. I don't see Ray being able to box in the later rounds as JL turns up the pressure and finds him with the jab and left hook. These guys will exchange on the inside and as the fight wears on I believe it favours the bigger man. Ray doesn't have the defensive skills to neutralise JL , he will be forced to engage too often and I think his jab becomes less effective over the fight. Castillo had a great chin at 135 and very subtle parries. JL has the skills to take Ray's jab away and take this fight where he wants in the later rounds. Castillo was not just a crowder he had a good outside attack (long straight right, varied uppercut jab and the traditional catch/shoot jab). I am so impressed by Ray's toughness and endurance vs Kim and ATG Arguello I think he lasts the distance. Castillo 8 rounds to 4.
Castillo by late ko or decision. Castillo was a strong lightweight. The only possible advantage Mancini could have is thus negated. Castillo's power and workrate catch up with a game Mancini Ray Mancini beat one legitimate top 10 lightweight in his career - Jose Luis Ramirez. Art Frias is borderline top 10 even though he had a title. Mancini is overrated on here. I really wonder how many of his admirers on here were around to watch his prime. Dave Wolf is one of the best managers in boxing history. What he did with Mancini and LaLonde, with their myriad limitations, was impressive.
Boom Boom Mancini, he edges Castillo down the stretch.Let's see Jose give Alexis Arguello all he could handle.
