............Yes, one more time we go to the well to have another round-robin discussion of a fighter of some note.

As with the other such discussions we've had here, please post your thoughts on Mancini; your take on the overrated-underrated debate, what greats he may have given trouble, his best fights, whatever ya got.

Unlike the other introductory posts for these threads I've done, I'll post my opinion here outright; I feel he is sorely underrated. While of course not in the league of a Duran or Ike Williams or a Whitaker, he deserves far better than the "overhyped white boy" tag he got hung with. Ray could fight. In time, I hope people see this.

Top fighter. His fights never lacked excitement and he had a helluva story behind him. His effort vs Arguello was one of the gutsiest of his time. Very good power, good durability and intense determination.

...........The Arguello match is probably my favorite of his, because he showed an awful lot of skill and heart in that one, far more than his naysayers would want to admit. There's also no shame at all in losing to someone like Arguello.

When he fought, you knew it'd be worth watching. Even when all hope was lost he would still come out the next round swinging away trying to win. He was a very good fighter and packed a punch and had a helluva chin. :!:

Seriously, how many lightweights in history would have beaten that Arguello. Even tho well up in the weights he was a genuine great at 135.

I think the Arguello fight was Mancinni's best performance EVER. And he was only what?? 21 or something?

Great action never give up fighter! Always gave his best in the ring, that's why he is/was always so beloved. & truly one of the humble & classiest fighters around. One of the nicest, polite fighters I have had the pleasure to meet. I hate to say it, but his best performance was the Kim fight. Awesome fight all the way. The Kim corner maybe should have stopped it going into the 14th round though. Kim was done, you could see he had nothing left & was hurting.

Not a great fighter, but a very good one with great heart and a lot of class. In addition to fights mentioned above, I thought he fought very well in the second Bramble fight. He did all he could to win that fight and came pretty close to doing it against a guy who just had more tools than him at the time. I don't think he was quite the same fighter after the Kim fight.

Nope -- he was not the same after the Kim fight. I honestly believe that pre-kim there would have been no need for a rematch with Bramble.

Ray was tremendous in his loss to Arguello... Close fight until Alexis eventually landed that big right hand. I most enjoyed his two fights with Bramble. Amazing action.

I do believe he was a mere 20. I thought he was never the same after this match that he wasn't ready for in the first place.
    What fighter possibly could be?

He was promoted very well by his manager,Dave Wolfe, who also guided an average fighter(Donny Lalonde) to world titles. He was the real star of the show(behind the scene).
