I can’t see any other outcome aside from a wide decision win for Jimmy Young

I see Young beating any form of Mercer, but the Holyfield version was particularly ineffective. Young UD. I don't see Mercer winning more than 3 rounds. Good fight though.

    Lol.

That was one of Mercers best performances. I realize your brain is still developing.

Nope. Cooper and Foreman rattled Holyfield more than that. I guess in light of Mercer's losses to Ferguson and Holmes, yes this is one of his better performances. However, Cooper, Morrison, Damiani, Witherspoon, and Lewis were all better.

I agree. Young was too skilled and elusive for Mercer to get a points win and too durable for ray to stop. The Jimmy young who beat foreman and Lyle as well as was possibly robbed against Ali and Norton would box circles around any version of Mercer

Young makes Mercer look like an amateur,...a confused amateur...all night long.

Hell yeah, look at what Holmes did to Mercer. Young would have a time w/ Mercer. I mean he survived Foreman's onslaught and Shavers too (the second time around), and as magoo said, ran circles around Lyle and Ali, and possibly defeated Norton as well. And considering that Shavers was able to knock Young out and Foreman wasn't, I think that's proof that no one other than Shavers is capable of knocking out a prime Young.

Ray Mercer was a good fighter in all fairness. He started boxing at a late age and won an Olympic gold medal while also serving in the U.S Army. He turned pro around 28 years of age, fought 11 times within his first year as a professional and over time captured the USBA, NABF and WBO titles. Along the way he had some good wins over Francesco Damiani, Tommy Morrison, and Bert Cooper. Ray showed he had an iron chin and decent power in the right hand as well as the ability to go the distance against some pretty damn good fighters.... but he had his limitations. He was slow of both hand and foot. Had an average defense at best. Couldn’t really cut off the ring against a truly good boxer and sometimes was lazy in training for fights. Perhaps an earlier start in the game and a trainer like Manny Steward might have taken him further.... as it stands he was a good amateur and professional fringe contender.

Although I think Young would whop him, I do agree w/ this.

Oh I do too. Any good boxer with a decent chin would have outpointed him. Someone like Marvis Frazier MIGHT have done it depending on weather or not he could stay out of harm’s way, as his chin was shaky

i don't think Marvis could have made it; for him 2 try to evade Mercer's big punches for 10 or 12 rounds would have been a task i don't think Marvis would have been up 2
