J.S: Which would you say was the tougher sport, either K-1 or MMA, or boxing? R.M: In boxing you need skill, but in those two sports I'd say there are more ways to get killed (laughs). They really fight in those sports - they really fight hard. They're crazy! There are certainly more ways to get hurt than there are in boxing. An interesting perspective from a guy who really is/was a very accomplished pro boxer, has fought in an MMA event, and has 2 K-1 fights. "They really fight in those sports" is a particularly interesting line.
People who've never sparred MMA will hardly understand that. In fact I still believe a lot of people are "using a set of skills" when they are in MMA fight while people like Fedor, A.Silva, GSP go out there and fight. Fedor in particular because he comes out with no plan and just deals with w/e comes his way.
Yeah, and it's funny all those fake hardass when they come for their free practice at the begginning, and they all think I won't be able to take them down and sub them They act all tough and don't want to tap, so I need to hurt them a little bit to make them learn that they arent tough street fighter anymore in the octogone.
I love when the stand in a boxer stance, which is kind of more sideways than squared up. So easy to take them down. I got humbled when I came to JiuJitsu from wrestling in the similar way.
Mercer took a giant kick from the flying dutchman turned away and simply walked back to he's corner. Dont ask me why on earth he flirted with the K1..
sure mercer was way past it when he ventured into mma we all know what requires the more talent and skill just as mercer said
