How do folks think Mercer will do against the Dutch Sonny Liston???

Ray Mercer vs Richel Hersisia in Sweden on Sept 5!

Fight Production manager Olaf Schroeder today confirmed reports coming out of Sweden that Dutch heavyweight Richel Hersisia, 30-2 (24 KO’s), will indeed clash with veteran former WBO ‘world’ champion ‘Merciless’ Ray Mercer, 35-7-1 (26 KO’s), in Karlstad, Sweden on September 5 in a bout scheduled for 6 x 2 minutes, the maximum allowed distance in that country..

“From our side, it’s on,” said Schroeder, “we just wait for promoter Anders Homberg of Pugnus Boxing Promotion to sign the contract, but negotiations with Anders went smooth and easy, so I don’t expect any problems. I am very happy that Anders is giving us this great opportunity!”.

On his last visit to Swedish shores in September ’07, Mercer knocked Mikael Lindblad out cold in the first round. For that fight, Lindblad sparred with Hersisia at the gym of ex-‘world’ champion Graciano Rocchigiani in Germany, so the ‘Dutch Sonny Liston’ will surely be warned. Mercer may be 47 years of age, but he proved that his punch is still up there with the best of them. However, in fact Hersisia has an even higher knockout ratio than Mercer – although at a lower level – so a spectacular punch-out looks to be looming.

“This is the biggest fight to be held in Sweden in the last 40 years, or since Floyd Patterson lost to Jimmy Ellis for the WBA ‘world’ heavyweight crown in Stockholm in 1968,” proclaimed an exited promoter Anders Holmberg.

This guy has fought nothing but nobodys, and he's about to step up against a faded Mercer...which is fine, but he's looking past Ray already...with a date on BoxingRec for the following month. I don't know much about this guy, but I dont' know if I'd schedule a fight for only one month after a bout with Mercer.

I think Mercer wins a KO but I don't doubt him getting beat, he's definitely faded.

    No no no NO!

Mercer should win this, but I hope he doesn't because if he does, he wil carry on fighting.

Mercer needs to hang it up. Maybe go into training guys but forget fighting. I see they are scheduled to fight 6-2minute rounds. My guess is Mercer gets outpointed. I see that Hersisia is a former WBF titlist. Only knockout loss is to Audley Harrison. If Mercer was in his prime he'd probably whack this guy out in five.

Hows he going to do that? Mercer is so old even his chin has left him and he spits more dust than an Egyption mummy. This bout is pointless and futile. Mercer called it a day some time ago. His got grandkids. He needs to stick to his word instead of risking his health for **** all.

Hersisia is a bum. The guys big for nothing and his nick name is just stupid. His not anything like Sonny Liston. His a slow plodding heavyweight who got owned by Audley. Now imagine that.. being owned by Audley?!?!

Situations like this are why I never criticize a boxer too much for choosing fights based on the highest payday. Mercer fought on the big stage plenty of times and made good money, but he should have hung up the gloves long ago. He must need cash; I can think of no other reason he would still be fighting. It's a shame.

Like I said prime for prime Mercer whips him but I can see Mercer losing by scores of 58-56.

meaningless for both fighters. Hersisia gets nothing for beating an old Mercer and Mercer gets nothing for beating an unproven Hersisia.

Don't see what the big problem with this fight is. Mercer's old I get it. If he's fit, let him fight this guy. They're probably on similar levels tho i don't know much about the other guy. it's not like it's ppv or something.

Maybe we can all take up a collection so that Mercer doesn't have to fight again.

I will be shocked if Mercer wins.

If Kimbo and Rossy can dominate him, the dumb nickname can too.
