I spoke directly to ray mercer about this fight a year ago come October. He said Wilder wouldn't see round 5 against him. And that was before the Molina where I thought Wilder looked absolutely terrible.

 

Wilder lands first, too rangy, too fast.

But Mercer wouldn't even flinch, a prime Lewis threw the kitchen sink at Mercer and couldn't even drop him.

Mercer has the better jab, would push him back and once he lands he batters him.

Although Mercer sometimes just didn't show up, I can't see many scenarios in wich Wilder wins it. Very bad matchup for him.

C'mon! We all know Wilder would KO old man Ray Mercer at this point.

I'm sure you guys will bad mouth Wilder if this fight gets signed... which won't happen for the sake of Mercer's health...

 

Like you said, even washed up Mercer could give Wilder a run for his money

The Mercer a (physically) prime Wlad destroyed was actually still very game, a far cry from his former self maybe but not shot. I'd pick that Mercer to dissect Wilder with jab and brutally KO him, he even gave Wlad a bit of trouble with it that night.

 

I think Mercer would have had a good chance against Wilder until he hit his upper 40s. Obviously he's too old now though....
