Ruddock wasn't even a serious fighter back then and he only lost due to a bull**** stoppage. Yes, Arreola was a more highly regarded win at the time, which is why Stiverne reached the three spot in the division. Arreola also wouldve folded Morrison.
It was a TKO victory. He brutally floored Ruddock and battered him on the ropes to the point where the referee stopped it. I thought it was premature but nowhere near as premature as the first fight between Mike Tyson and Ruddock. In this case Ruddock had absolutely no answers when he was trapped on the ropes getting punched on. He also did it quicker than Mike Tyson so there you go.
A highly regarded win because of bs rankings. Ruddock giving Mike Tyson the fight of his life is a better feat than anything Arreola has done. If Arreola gave Vitali a difficult night then I'd understand where you're coming from and probably would favor him over Morrison but that never happened
The Ring rankings are not BS. Go check the timeline and get back to me about how relevant the Tyson fights were in 95. If you still think that was the same Ruddock, then we're gonna count Liakovich as the same guy who won an ATG brawl with Brewster for Wilder.
Yes because Lamon Brewster is as good as Pre prsion Mike Tyson. Wait a minute. Liakhovich ? The same guy who lost to Harris, Valuev, Briggs, Helanius and Jennings ? All these losses before he fought Wilder.
I don't know if Ruddock ever beat anyone who was a top 10 heavy at the time he beat them. Ruddock made his reputation beating guys who were well past it. If we subject ruddock's resume to the same scrutiny as Arreola's it doesn't look all that impressive.
But what Ruddock did do was go toe to toe with Mike Tyson and he gave him one of his hardest fights, twice. Thats not a feat Wilder, Stirvine, or Arreola would accomplish
I rate Mercer very highly and his contest with Lewis where he lost by only 1 round shows how good he is. I would back Mercer to decision Wilder or stop him late.
Not a fair example. Mercer was 41 years old when he faced Wlad. He was 44 when he faced Briggs. I hardly consider that an argument for Wilder stopping Mercer at his most resilient.
