He played dead on thr canvas. That isn't age related.

He had Klitschko panicking , on the backfoot and holding repeatedly. He wasn't getting blasted with full leveraged shots like somebody like Pulev for example.
But Peter was slow as a sloth and had no defence and was less skilled than Ortiz , so a Wilder one shot blow out is the only result imaginable.
Wilder wont try boxing Peter like Klitschko did, Thats what people forget about Wilder. Hes comfortable with losing every round unlike Klitscho. Once he finds that opening , which wont be hard , its game over for Peter.
44 year old Holmes performed better against Mercer than prime Wlad did against Peter.
    Mercer > Peter

Peter has the power to one shot Wilder though, I can't see that a foregone conclusion even if Wilders the favorite

In a shootout the guy faster off the mark wins 9x out of 10.

Peter almost didn't make it to the third round against MaClince.
Luckily MaCline was shot , overweight and took the fight on short notice.
Prime McCline and Wilder annihilate Peter. Peter was basically Franz Botha and a slightly worse Chisora

    True
Also true - Klitschko suffers a compound nervous breakdown if Wilder even grazed him. 50 / 50 match that one.

Peter from the second Toney fight probably beats Mercer.

Mercer on a bad day was getting beaten up Jesse Ferguson and having a draw vs Marion Wilson who won 12 fights out of 57.

Peter isn't that good but he certainly isn't that bad either.

    You're right about that

Would you favor Peter to push Lennox Lewis to his limit and take 4 rounds off Holyfield ? Is it even conceivable ?

Close fight I think for several rounds. I think wilder would use his jab and range to stay on the outside until Mercer gets on the inside, clips wilder and then Deontey would resort to the windmill tactics desperately trying to get Mercer out of there. But he wouldn’t. Mercer finally knocks out an exhausted and beat up wilder after an action packed back and forth fight.
