    At their best.

Much as I like Gerrie, I am afraid Ray had the tools to beat him.

And I don't think Gerrie makes it till the end. A late stoppage win for Mercer in a very tough fight is more likely.

Perhaps Coetzee's right cross might do the job to hurt Ray.

Ray in his prime eats Gerrie's right, but eats it well, so I think Raymond out-lasts Gerald for a mid-rds KO......

I will pick a peak Mercer to win on points, but Coetzee makes him pay if he comes not in top shape!!

Gerrie's mobility and boxing skills are overshadowed by his right hand, but he boxed Pinklon Thomas to a stalemate in a sub par performance, and Thomas had a vastly superior left hand to Ray. I think Coetzee would discover early that Mercer could take his best shot, then adapt accordingly for the points win. Ray was badly out boxed by Damiani, Morrison and Holmes. Gerrie wasn't quite in their class skill wise, but was adept enough to get the better of the action.

I like Coatzee over 12, but Mercer has a chance late.

The thing is, who did Mercer ever beat?

Good point, I guess Morrison, Cooper, Damiani and Witherspoon are his best scalps.. Though I though he should have lost to Witherspoon..

I have built most of my positive opinions of Mercer in his close fights with Lewis and Holyfield.. He was right there in both...

Mercer is similar to Ron Lyle in that he's remembered for his losses. This is a dangerous way of looking at things though, I mean if he was really as good as he looked against Lennox and Holyfield he would have more scalps.

I think stylewise Mercer is a brutal fight for some and a not so hard fight for others. Ferguson, Holmes, Damiani before the super flukey stoppage, and Morrison before getting caught all exposed his major limitations. He has a bit unwarranteed reputation as a monster puncher as well, in reality he was a good puncher but nothing too scary.
(You wouldn't be able to say that to Tommy Morrison, though )

Both guys were past their prime at that point but Witherspoon more so. A good fight actually, it showed how good of a fighter Witherspoon really was.

Goetzee's chin was merely okay at best..... "Weaver, Page & Bruno" managed to ****-up Gerrie Boy pretty good in 1981, 1984 and 1986.......

Acutally his chin was pretty good. And Coetzee was probably past his best in the Bruno fight.

Agreed i dont know what the TM was talking about Gerries chin wasnt that great and i think Mercer would stop him. Coetzee was a good fighter with a big right "Bionic" however Mercer would take it this would be evenly fought maybe Mercer might even be behind but hed finish COetzee probably mid to late rounds. Mercer ko 10

    The DUKE!

Seriously, as much as I like Ray, he could really stink up the joint with minimal efforts and lack of preparation. You just don't know which Ray is going to show up.
