The fight was in talks when Mercer held WBO title and Moorer was #1 in WBO rankings.

Mercer chose to fight Holmes instead of Moorer for better money.

Anyway, how do you see this fight going?

Both undefeated, Mercer 18-0 fresh off impressive wins over Cooper, Damiani and Tommy Morrison

Moorer was 26-0 with recent KO's over Levi Billups and Alex Stewart.

If Mercer comes to fight, his chin will carry the day. Mercer catches up to Moorer who just can't help himself when it comes to a good battle, and wins by tko10

I think Moorer back then was more inclined to brawl with Steward in his corner. And remember, he did beat Holyfield so Mercer won't be a task he can't conquer. Close fight, good fight with Mercer's chin and Moorer's awesome power. I think Moorer had enough skill to box when he needed but Mercer might be able to sniff out Moorer's weak chin before the bell sounds.

I'll pick Moorer. Mercer had problems with technical boxers and didn't really knock guys out; Morrison packed glass and Damiani had a strange nose injury. Not a sure thing by any bet.

Mercer would have brutalized Moorer the same way he did Morrison.

Another vote for Mercer. Eventually (and, quite honestly, probably within the first 3-4 rounds) Moorer would mix it up with Mercer. When he does, he gets flattened much like Morrison. Moorer's chin is just too unreliable. And in his prime, Mercer had a cast iron chin, and enough power to KO Moorer (in spite of probably being outlanded 2-1 before the stoppage)

Mercer by mid to late rounds stoppage, with Moorer ahead on the cards

    Similar to Mercer/Morrison

Moorer is faster but can't hurt Mercer, who has the much better chin. Eventually, Moorer gets caught by something big and is taken out.

It is a pick 'em fight. Mercer had the chin advantage and the power to hurt and deck Moorer. But we also know that Mercer was very hittable and had questionable training habits. Moorer fought from the southpaw position, had superior speed and snap, more compact punches, and had underrated ring generalship and toughness. At that time in his career, MM could be dropped, but we also know he would get up and fight back hard. But Mercer was a heavier handed guy and better than Cooper, who twice decked MM. It would have been very interesting and entertaining.

Would be a great fight pity it never happened .think Mercer would win late after maybe going down and being behind on the cards.could have been a classic.

    Moorer.

Lopsided decision. I sure don't see Merecer getting in anything other than horrible condition for a fight like this. Anyone really think he bothers to train much for a lh moving up? I sure don't.

His whiskers keep him in there but Moorer would be landing like 40 to 50 punches a round on the guy. This is back when MM used his feet in there. That quickness and straight punches would see Mercer looking like a plodder of the highest degree.

In a fight that Mercer could have won if he bothered to get in condition for. But I just don't picture Merciless doing about 1 mile of roadwork for the guy. Less than that on jumping rope.
