That's true Jake, I'm not underestimating Mercer s chin, but Let's not forget he put Foreman down, and he didn't go down often. I just think it'll be a clash head on and if Ray maybe gets caught up in the heat of the battle and finds himself on the floor.
But you're right bud, his chin was solid!

I didn't know Lyle fought Morrison, Lewis, and Wlad lol. He also took a lot of punishment vs. Cooper, Witherspoon, and to a lesser extent Holyfield and did great.

I don' think so. Lyle could punch, but he was a decent boxer. Mercer to me was all puncher, although he did have a much better jab.

Both have slow feet and heavy hands, Lyle has the edge in power, they are similar in height, in a fight like that, it’s usually the one with the better jab who wins because neither have the feet to avoid the jab and having a jab makes it a whole lot easier and neutralises the opponents other punches and Lyle would be in front of him without much foot movement, I see Mercer busting him up with the jab and possibly stopping him late but probably on points unless Lyle lands something big if he can counter the jab but I doubt it

I still disagree w/ you, but you have some fine points there at the beginning.

Lyle for me. He was just a better boxer than Mercer, in my opinion, and would not have engaged Merciless in a manner that made him look good.

I liked Mercer and he was up there with the best of the '90s, but against opponents, who boxed him, he could on occasion be left searching for answers. He did carry a game-changer, but Lyle was teak tough and I reckon equal to anything Mercer could dish out.

    Lyle W UD.

Yeah, Lyle did seem to be a better boxer. If Lyle opted to box, I think he could win. If it was a slugfest, I pick Mercer.
