who would take it? not so easy to predict as it seems at the first look. mercer had an iron chin and a great jab if he decided to use it. sam peter isn't as skilled but he always comes to win and has more brute strength. mercer, though great in some fights, disappointed in some fights (holmes, ferguson, wilson!).
I can't believe no one is interested in this thread. To bad this fight really couldn't happen. It would be fun to watch. Since, Mercer is like Peter's size, it would be an equal war. Mercer should have been a great champion. Once he had his opponents hurt, he could finish them off better than most in history. Peter could never afford to ever get hurt against Mercer. Both guys started boxing later in their life, but Mercer is a scarier boxer. If I was a boxer, I would take on Peter before ever getting in the ring with Mercer. My prediction, Mercer KO Peter in 9 rounds. I would pay top dollar to see this fight. Good thread.
thanks, terrence! people go crazy over the midgets vs. lion thread, but no one seems to notice this one... this could have been an absolute hw war. i think sam peter would get discouraged in the middle/late rounds of the fight, while you couldn't discourage mercer, he is tough as nails.
Mercer UD, he was much more skilled and Peter couldn't dent his chin. Mercer would bust him up with the jab

Mercer was a bad man in his day...but now he would just be aname on Peter's resume...I didn't vote, don't know if it's prime for prime or not...

Exactly. I like Peter and think he's better than many give him credit for, but he wouldn't be able to hurt Mercer. Mercer, on the other hand, might be able to hurt him.:yep
