Yes , but this is called the “classic forum”.

Some of us can actually remember the 90s!

Liston by a close but clear decision.

Liston stops him inside 8 rounds, mercer was tough, but sonny was a murderous puncher.

Mercer was very tough but could be out boxed (ask Jesse Ferguson) I dont think there is any particular speed advantage here and Mercer is going the distance. I think Sonny makes use of the Jab and get a close UD or SD win in a close fight

Mercer was tough but Liston was a beast i think he stops Merciless Mercer inside five brutally one sided rounds.

Sonny Liston by UD. Mercer wasn't stopped until he was north of 40 and that was by a young Wladimir Klitschko when he was still going for the gusto instead of boxing safety first. Ray took a peaking Lewis to the cards in a brawl and tested his chin against a myriad of other heavy hitters.. He also had enough sting in that right hand to give Sonny a few lumps.. Not as much of a mismatch as some have already labeled it..

Hard gruelling fight but I certainly go for Liston to win this probably by UD with a chance of a stoppage . Ray finishes with a badly swollen face and Liston knows he's been in a tough competitive fight

Im sure a prime, harder hitting and more aggressive Liston can easily emulate what a 40+ year old Holmes could.

FFS Mercer struggled with Boogeyman Ferguson.

In fact, even in his best wins, Mercer was struggling or losing badly e.g Morrison.

So far Foremansjab has discredited Liston, Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Mayweather and Ward, and given credit to Calzaghe, Vitali and Wladmir.

    Theres no pattern there.

Sonny easily. Mercer is tough and hangs in there but is overmatched. Mercer has nothing to threaten him with. Sonny is a better boxer and a better puncher. Mercer was a decent heavyweight at best.
