    how close was this fight to being made?... Or was it ever seriously considered?

    I think that the fight was talked about, but only when Ike got to be the undisputed lightweight champion of the world, and by that time Robinson was almost fighting exclusively middleweights, except for when he had to defend his welterweight title.
