i know that ray Robinson is considered the greatest fighter p4p all time, but most of his prime is not on video, i know for a fact how great ray Leonard was by watching his fights, anybody think Leonard could be better then Robinson?

In terms of ability, I think Leonard is right him. I absolutely do.

Purely in terms of ability, SRL is every bit as great as SRR IMO. It's other factors that make SRR the greater fighter p4p.

SRL is as good as anyone who ever laced them up.

I think Whitaker was better than Leonard, apart from power.

what matters is when you put that ability to test and he falls far short, as in the Norris fight.

Look, were not asking a whole lot out of the man but please dont fight lalonde and give us farces like uno mas

All we're asking for is a few meaningful contests. Victories over Pryor, McCallum, Nunn, Curry, Jackson, and Norris are whats needed in order to certify his greatness.

If you're asking to be compared with Robinson then he must take these fights while they are available to him. Surely it's not a lot to ask for if you really believe him to be the equal of Robinson

    Without them, it's a no :?

I think Whitaker would be better than Leonard if he had power too. However, he didn't. So for me Leonard edges it ever-so-slightly over Pea purely because he had a superior offensive arsenal. Had Whitaker faced someone with the size, style and weaponry of a Hearns and was being outboxed, he would not have had the firepower to get him out of there and get the win. Although Whitaker was slightly better in various areas than Leonard, Leonard's offence makes him a slightly more balanced and complete fighter. Not much between them at all though, and I definitely prefer Whitaker as a fighter.

But he convincingly defeated and stopped the skilled Benitez, and stopped the undefeated and brilliant Hearns?

Do you not rate those wins?

There close, leonard was a truly magnificient fighter, however robinson holds some small advantages over leonard that made him a better fighter in my opinion He had quite a bit more power than leonard, and also he threw every punch with bad intentions. Leonard would quite often throw lovely combinations with no real weight behind them doing little damage. Robinson could throw similar style combination but with powershots.

Robinson was also slightly better at fighting off the back foot to my mind, he had as good if not better footwork than leonard and his punches had more sting to them, he could hurt you when going backwards, a rare skill in a fighter(though he wasn't retreating on the fullmer knock out like some claim).

Anyway they isn't much difference between the 2 but robinson is better in certain areas, i can't really think of many things where leonard can outdo him

Me too. Whitaker would've beaten Duran at 135lbs, IMO. High praise indeed.

I've always been of the let's wait and see attitude.

So he's got a couple of names on his resume. So does Salvador Sanchez-that plus a 43-1 record

Leonard's suspicious comebacks coupled with his performance in the Norris fight, AND all the missing fights he could have had had he more confidence, are all I need to see for me to have my mind made up about him

I don't think Pea would've beaten Duran at 135, but what do I know, he may well have done. They are probably my two all-time favourite fighters. :good

PS: Did you get my PM about the Pollock guy mate?

So if you put the Leonard v Benitez fight on, you don't see it as a great performance by a great fighter unfolding before your eyes?

    Robinson was better.

He was around the same size, but he's one of the greatest MW's that ever lived. He proved his superioriy against bigger men in a golden era for the division, even if he didn't match all the best fighters around. He had all of Loenard's speed for me, but he punched with very bad intentions. His combinations were horrible, he could treble up one punch.

His domination of LaMotta is persistantly udnerated. A bigger, un-knockoutable swarmer who is very busy. How do you like that, being a welterweight?
