No, but had he taken Micheal Nunn or Julian Jackson to the woodshed, that would have impressed the **** out of me!
I think a more appropriate question is: would a win over Jackson have impressed more than a win over lalonde Speaking of Tommy, a rematch was in order and what better time than in 1984 just as Tommy was peaking. A win over 154 pound Thomas Hearns who just finished with Duran, would have been a MAJOR accomplishment. I personally believe Tommy would have knocked Ray out. No disgrace. he knocked out Duran. He would have done the same with Ray.
Its closer than some may think and I personally rate the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Duran as better than anyone Robinson faced. He never faced many fast/slick fighters like Ray did for the main part
I'll go with Robinson but I think it's close. Both of these guys had some frightening KO's at 147 (one ending in death for Robinson). Robinson was more technically disciplined, Leonard maybe a slightly, slightly better athlete. Robinson had a little better jab for me, Leonard better defensively. It just damn close in my opinion. Robinson was a better middleweight which translates to a better resume.
Definitely Robinson. Both similar in size, extremely skilled and fast. However, Robbo had a clear edge in power...as well as that harder edge....one that is needed to consistently dominate the MW division as well. Leonard was loaded with talent and exciting to watch, but Robinson was a rare breed. There may never be anybody like him again.
