Well that chin would be checked & checked to the max! Skill-wise, I do not think you get a better match-up in any division, in any era! Talk about a fight to saviour! SRR has the edge in power imo & that would be the difference! Leonard was a magnificent boxer, but Ray Robinson is the best P4P boxer in history. As a Welterweight, Robinson, at his peak, was the closest a fighter has been to near-perfection!
the height and reach difference is negligible. it comes down to superior stamina and firepower, both of which go to Robinson overwhelmingly. Leonard does not have the chin to stand up to the combinations of Robinson and gets bludgeoned brutally. Shades of Norris and Camacho! :!:
I'd favour robinson, i think it would be pretty close but i do fancy robinson clearly. In a lot of areas they are similar but i do see some advantages for ray. Robinson is quite a bit better in an offensive sense to my mind. I think leonard would realise this and not try to pressure him for a knock out like he did against hearns as i think he wouldn't be able to get that with rays chin and ability to and out punishment. I see leonard throwing a lot of his shoe shine flurrys. Now while these shots generally looked a million dollars they didn't really have much behind them, generally though that didn't matter as his opponents where dazzled by his speed. Robinson would not be, when leonard opens up with his beautiful flurrys, robinson will be firing back with interest instantanisly, heavy blows to the head and body thrown together in beautiful combinations, shot that will hurt leonard, a lot. To be honest i think leonard best chance would be to fight similarly to duran 2, keep on the move almost none stop, throw a few shots here and there that look great then back on his bike, if he fights his usual fight at 147 and is in range a lot robinson beats him i'm pretty sure for the reasons above. If he keeps on the move i could see him sneaking a decision however robinson footwork, footspeed and ability to throw seriously dangerous to body and head with the slightest oppurtunuity makes it very difficult to pull off that sort of fight for 15 rounds. In a series of fights i can see leonard coming out with a victory here and there if he employed the perfect stratergy, but generally i'd favour robinson, frankly he was just that little bit better
