He was 155 in Lamotta 5 wasnt he, I'd expect him to be stronger and have more power at the weight than Leonard. Good point about strength at the weight though

he weighed 154 and a 1/2 for the first turpin fight but he was 31 by then.i don't see robinson as all time elite middle.at light middle he's untouchable though

The thing is, Robinson was never physically strong, not even at WW, not really. He boxed around that single weakness, it's why he was mostly unaffected by it at 160, check out the strong MW's he outboxed before he got old.

And yeah, you are right about the weight, he was 155 for the last LaMotta fight. Hagler is not a huge MW, I don't think the size difference matters, at all, given their styles, and Robinson's height and reach.

Well, for the purposes of this thread he's the shorter man by about 2 inches and he never weighed over 162 in his career, to my knowledge. He never struggled to make the weight and he never boxed at 175. Compare this to guys like LaMotta (carried 170 with ease, struggled desperately with the weight) Dick Tiger (tortured by the 160 limit, only his incredible discipline allowed him to fight at that weight for so long), Pavlik (over six foot tall, broad) and you see what I mean. Hagler was a natural at the weight. He was not a "big" MW, like these other men, either in terms of his natural division or his dimensions.

Yes hes certainly a smaller MW but his skill, speed, dynamic would let him get away being smaller against Hagler and Monzon who imo would be chasing smoke rings at times. 6lbs makes a difference in a fight but sometimes the smaller man has a few advantages in the ring too

The thing about Robinson which is uncommon for a tall/rangy man he managed to pack not only power but also a great chin and that holds true at middleweight. He could also punch viciously at all ranges at speed. This translates to in the ring type strength

Hagler obviously wasn't rangy but he was a bull, more so than Lamotta imo, insane lats on him

Well you can have big lats (pic didn't show btw) and still be a natural MW. Here is LaMotta weighing 170lbs. You can see he's retained that thick-bodied look but you could easily mistake him for the MW version...he doesn't look unnatural at all.
