Ray Robinson vs Mike McCallum

McCallum has no chance. Sugar Ray IMO might have been perfect at '54. Mike is gonna be peppered and rocked. Yea he had a tough neck but when 3 or 4 lefthooks are coming in there's no choice.
No stand up guy is beating Robinson unless he is old or the guy is super awkward and at a Middleweight like Turpin. That was an off night anyway.

Sugar Ray introduces McCallum to a new experience. A knockout loss. Staring at the lights. Clean KO.

 

Robinson by decision, and may even get a Kd over the iron chinned MM.

After this bout McCallum would be thinking 'damn I wish he would have avoided me'.

 

Not against Robinson. I love Mccallum but in my opnion he doesn't have
the hand or foot speed to keep up with Robinson, plus Robinson's punching
power after a couple of rds would make Mccallum reluctant.
Though I don't believe Robinson ko's Mccallum, he would win a
comfortable dec 7-8 out of 10 times in my opinion

 

I can agree with this. It's easy to pick Robinson every time in a fantasy fight. And rightfully so. But here he has a fight on his hands imo and I think some are selling Mike short

 

Not trying to sell him short, but McCallum's fight game isn't as great as he thinks it is. But he was a great fighter.

 

Robinson. Terrifying speed and power. Watch his fights with Basilio in 57 and 58. Old Robinson but still a nasty fighter. Mike M. was very good but not in that class. Watch the ability to to counter .

SRR by one sided decision. Too much speed, finesse, and firepower even for a brilliant boxer like McCallum.

 

I have to favor Robinson but I’m confident McCallum goes the distance and even gives him a little trouble. Robinson is leagues higher on all time scale but McCallum was the type of wild card guy who could give a lot of greats issues

 

I read once that Robinson never fought Zale because of his body punching. I have no idea if that is true or not, but it might be worth thinking about. Ray would probably have a little bit too much of most things for McCallum to overcome, but I don't think that Mike would have too much trouble getting in his body shots.

 

At 154, this is a fantastic fight. The one area that I see Ray having a significant advantage is speed. McCallum was so fundamentally solid that he’d make Robinson think but I don’t think he’d overcome the edge in speed. I don’t see anyone getting badly hurt, although both had that ability but with solid A grade chins, any edge in power Robinson had would probably be negated and it would go to points. It would always be competitive but I see that decisive speed edge taking Ray to a clear decision win.

 

This is really bad for Mike. Speed is his kryptonite and Robinson has a pretty big edge in that not to mention he has power as well.
Have we not seen what Kalambay did to Mike with speed and movement? And the rematch was close.
Now imagine Kalambay hitting as hard as Ray.
And before everybody jumps in look what Curry was doing to Mike with speed and Curry isn't as fast as Ray.
Mccroy also dragged Mike into the tenth round and while Mike was winning Mccroy was landing alot of good shots.
