This dude continues to chop up the translation of boxers and say somthing completely diffrent. I'm glad I speak spanish, but HBO needs to bring in the other guy(cant remember his name). At no time did Quintana say he had trouble breathing!!!
Not one word of breathing. I thought Julio Chavez Sr was going to slap him once for screwing up the translation and reporting That Chavez said somthing completely diffrent.
I knew he was leaving things out - the people be speaking and Torres says nothing - then comes in - like he just made it up.
yup 100%. Ray Torres really takes what boxers say in spanish and destroys it so hard. He doesn't translate anything correctly. A lot of times boxers put a lot of emotion and you can get a certain vibe in the way they're expressing themselves in spanish. But when it comes through that broken down translation it losses its original feel and value and almost its entire meaning. I don't see why they can't hire a professional translator.
My mom and I were just talking about this same topic earlier this morning while watching the replay of the fight.
I don't speak Spanish, but I've always liked him because he has a lot of emotion in his voice when he translates in between rounds, unlike most translators. But I guess if I spoke Spanish I wouldn't like him the same way I hate when Russian translators get something wrong. That's an interesting thing to know about Ray Torres though. I won't taken his translations as word-for-word fact anymore.
I like how he waits until the fighter is done. The other translator dude takes pauses with the figher in translating. He probably has to do that or else he'll forget, but for some reason I am not really into it.
I feel sorry for the guy, but HBO needs to kick Torres out of the position. He literally destroys the message a boxer is trying to give. I agree that the other guy is better.
yeah since comming home my parents ask me to translate so I just speak louder than the guy. he really does screw it all up.
