Ponomarev is probing with the jab, looking for Zewski's head, not finding it. Ponomarev is waving his fists out in front of himself, treading invisible water, keeping Zewski at bay with the mere threat of a flurry, just feinting continuously in slow motion with both hands. Zewski is now the one circling on the outside, taking half-hearted steps in, changing his mind, stalking, not committing. A few long jabs by Ponomarev, grazing. Slowest round all night in terms of mutual connects.

Also, hate to break it to everybody, but maybe Zewski was a little over hyped and protected through now, and in reality not a much higher level than Steve Claggett. :conf Just saying.

 

Round 10

Ponomarev is spearing in rights up top, largely shelving the jab and carrying the left arm low, probably weary from nine consecutive rounds of busy jabbing. Ponomarev is caught by a right hand from Zewski and answers with the jab. Ponomarev is covering up and backpedaling into the ropes, taking a Zewski jab-and-chopping-right combo on the arms. Another combo by Zewski, blocked. Strong pull-counter right on the chin by Ponomarev, dazing Zewski for a moment. Ponomarev is throwing light hooking flurries jumping in, then scurrying out, using side to side movement, sashaying in a wide arc in front of a lead-footed Zewski.

10-9 Ponomarev, close though, could see it being scored even or to MZ on the basis of a couple of good shots and most of Ponomarev's work being window dressing.
