You hit an interesting point there Ruddock tried to slug with someone who was better slugger than him (Tyson) and then tried to outbox a guy who was a better boxer than him (Lewis), HAD he swapped those 2 around, he may have had more sucess. If hed tried to rush Lewis and take him out early and carefully outbox Tyson, he might have pulled it off. Lewis was relatively inexperienced at the time, this was his first big fight. Ruddock had everything, but his problem was he had too much of everything. Relied toomuch on power and bravery against Tyson and it didnt work and it ****ed him over in the long run. You really wont be the same anymore after having your **** pushed in for 19 rounds against a guy like Tyson.
Some great posts here.....Two great punchers (a bit underrated punchers to be honest, especially Rahman, rarely mentioned as a great puncher like he was)......Just think Razor was faster and tougher...with more accuracy.... ruddock by TKO, late.....
It wouldn't surprise me if Rahman came out on top here. It's already been said he was more disciplined a fighter than Ruddock and it's easy to see Rahman out jabbing Ruddock and spoiling when he needs to. I could even imagine him dropping him. Saying that i just don't see Rahman being able to avoid the 'smash' for the duration.
I see Rahman winning a decision here for some reason. Rahman was always underrated a bit. Not a lot, but a little.
Yep Ruddock made his rep in two losses to Tyson and we saw what Lewis did to him and his big arse reputation when they fought. Similar to Golota in gaining undeserved respect on the back of losses. Rahman could box a bit and at least managed to step up in a big fight against an ATG plus he showed an ability to rally from a precarious situation to gut out a win ala the Corrie Sanders fight. Ruddock showed himelf lacking in the abilty to rally back from the edge of disaster pretty much every time (Bonecrusher Smth excepted)
I picked Ruddock but I have been on a Rahman kick lately haha. I agree Rahman is underrated as a puncher, he had a powerful Right hand that would be a threat to many heavyweights. I believe the chin and punch repertoire would give the edge to Ruddock.
It would be a war, I pick Ruddock, but Rahman had ability to bag with right hand. Ruddock hung in tough agaisnt Tyson, I can't see Rahman doing same. Both were a bit clumsy at times, especially Rahman. I would not expect it to go distance. Could be a Lyle-Foreman type brawl.
Ruddock beat Lewis when they were young ams. It's a case of two guys with lots of potential and only one them totally fulfilling it.
