Best for best, Ruddock was better. If you're counting on Ruddock to fight like an idiot, that isn't him at his best.
True Bert Cooper could bang but he wasn't as big as a puncher as Morrison or Lewis who did knock out Ruddock. When Ray got hit he covered up. As I said Lewis wasn't hitting Mercer flush for the most part. Ray was smothering Lewis power. In any case Ruddock was stopped by monster punchers who hit harder than Mercer. By the time Razor fought Lewis and Morrison he wasn't as his best. His 2 fights with Tyson broke his body down. Kind of like Hoyfield vs Bowe. At the end they both wore each other down. Bowe more so than Holyfield. Ruddock pre Tyson is better than Mercer in my opinion. But that being said David Jaco did beat Razor so bad he quit. But I still think Razor is the better fighter.
I like Razor, too. Good size, power, durability, and decent skill. Mercer would be no easy task for him, but I think Ruddock could edge it.
if mercer struggles with ferguson 2 fites in a row / struggles with damiami / gets a gift decision against tim witherspoon / looses to a 42 yr old holmes / and gets a gift dec draw against marion wilson ........................donovan razor ruddock in 91 would be the first man to stop ray mercer .
ough fight to call. Providing Mercer shows up in shape and motivated, i figure he survives the Ruddock onslaught to win down the stretch, stealing rounds similar to the Witherspoon fight and possibly stopping Ruddock late on. The Mercer who flattened Morrison and pushed Holyfield and Lewis to the wire would have beaten Ruddock in my opinion.
You mean the Ruddock that was off balance all night trying to throw lead uppercuts from the outside against Tyson, who maybe threw 10 jabs in two fights? Mercer by UD.
