How do you rank him compared to other hard hitting contenders like Shavers, Lyle, Cooney etc? Was Ruddock ever known for having a strong right hand? From all the footage i have seen, seems like he relied overtly on his left. I have heard he had good boxing skills in the amateurs but abandoned them when he discovered his smash. Is this true? Has anyone seen him box in the amateurs?
Yes Donovan Ruddock was a late bloomer as punchers go. He was a boxer and a fairly good one at that, who discovered that he could pack on weight and KO men. This decision might actually have short changed him in the long run as it made him more susceptible to getting hit. His punching power was highly respected in the late 80s to early 90s. His KO performances may be misleading however as many of his opponents were diminished. Mike Tyson described him as “ hitting like a mule kicks “ which may lend itself to some credibility from the man who took the artillery of Frank Bruno and Bonecrusher Smith among others. As for how his power sizes up to the likes of Shavers, Cooney and Lyle ( not really an atg puncher ) it’s difficult to gauge.. As stated before his knockouts came against less than ideal opposition and his only real testimony came from a man who BEAT him. Then again a similar story can be said for Shavers and Cooney.
his fight with THE DUKE was phenomenal and Morrison backed up what Tyson said that Ruddock could really hit
Another guy who's made out to be more than he actually was by revisionists along with Tua and Tucker. When will it end
I really like Ruddock. Also, although I think I'm good at lists, actually, I'm really rubbish. And biased. As such, I say Razor is number 31 HW. Yeah.
Limited one trick pony who wasn’t particularly durable but gets a rep as such because Tyson had troubles with him. Thin resume but gets huge props based on losses which means he was a loser and fall guy. Bob Ungurean summed it up in one.
I love making lists, and I think they're pretty good. But this post sums up exactly why my HW list is crap, haha Difficult to rate one trick ponies So true
The funny thing about heavies is one trick can sometimes give you a pretty successful career. Exhibit A being Deontay Wilder. Your list is every bit as good and valid as the rest of us mate. Keep doing what you love!
For example, Mr. Demystifer calls on it all day long when a thread is just about a fighter MT fought and there is absolute no subject about Tyson himself The opportunity was just too tempting to leave the feces on the ground? But np, in the future there will be lots of events to step in for an unbiased revalidation on this boxer and load up the slingshot. And again I´m asking: "Honestly, can you take yourself serious here anymore? Aren´t you yourself the last die hard Tyson hater on the Classics, with even SwagEel and Wass1985 matured on Tyson threads?" Or should I say with SwagEel cheering hidden in the background, keeping his hands clean?
In English? Ruddock was hype. His record is bull**** based on two fights where your hero couldn’t do to him what LL did in the fashion befitting an atg. Swag, Wass and plenty of others don’t swallow your Tyson homoerotic fixation and base our judgements on facts and not image and hype. Cry me a river if you’re still getting in a tiz over it.
Judgement on facts, not hype, loading ip the feces slingshot when a thread isn´t even about Mike Tyson? Plenty of others? Plenty of others (42 votes) see Mike Tyson as the third best fighter to beat Joe Frazier (next to Lewis and Ali), the fighter of our last debate: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/poll-who-would-you-favor-against-frazier.634027/ Almost all of BF24 classic users think MT had more solid chin than Joe Frazier: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/rank-these-chins-in-order.616368/ Some maybe due to Tyson slugging it out with hard hitting Razor Ruddock, who KOd/TKOd his ten opponents prior to fighting Tyson. Want to tell me more about that homoerotic MT fixation of others, demystifying the hype?
