Yeah, gotta say, this madness that is his style is somehow proving effective...albeit that could just be down to Romay not being all that much of a tough nut.

(and Khiary Gray-Pitts is an okay win at best; he's from my neck of the woods. I haven't seen him personally fight live but I've seen a couple of the guys he previously lost to and...meh. Plus, that was a TD after 5 rounds and Evchenko just edged him like 48-47)

I'm not sure this catawampus approach, totally eschewing all vestiges of the science (and devoid of sweetness) could work at higher levels.

Interested to see if he can stop Romay, though. Looks about 50-50 right now.

 

Blatant front elbow on the face (Muay Thai style) has Romay on Queer St., ref says nothing.

 

Thought for sure Evchenko would knock him out there. He landed that elbow that had Romay staggering backwards into the corner with like 40 seconds left on the round clock and then didn't let up with a shower of punches. Just doesn't pack much pop, I guess, or El Zar is extremely resilient.

 

Romay appears to have a broken nose (cleft along the bridge, good amount of blood) - and so does Evchenko, actually, or is his just cauliflowered from past breaks (with a spattering of his opponent's blood droplets on his face)?

Romay actually clawing his way back into this, although still a long climb - staggered Evchenko badly with a right hook in the 5th.

It appears Romay finally quit.

I don't want to hear any judgmental BS, though, he actually hung in there far longer than most would in his shoes with that cut being as bad as it was (his corner did a HORRIBLY unprofessional job stanching it!)

 

Actually his defense was pretty sound in the first couple of rounds, but Evchenko kept chipping away until he got tired (and until the blood loss from the cut basically did Romay in)
