This was originally scheduled for light heavyweight, but they both came in at 177lbs.

Savitsky seems to be a much bigger star in Russia than I'd realized. All throughout Arutyunyan vs. Kudukhov they kept showing interviews, training vignettes, and even his live arrival walking into the venue. Big pop when he walked out, too. So far he's 12-0-1 and his biggest victories have been over a faded Sergey Nikolaevich "The Classic" Ekimov and Artur Akbarovich "The Crimean Lion" Ziyatdinov (Savitsky was the first person to stop Ziyatdinov)

Meysam Gheshlaghi hails from Iran, where he was a member of their national squad and nearly made the Olympics - winning three qualifier prelims before falling to Rafayel Hovhannisyan of Armenia (who in turn lost his spot to Jordanian southpaw Hussein Iashaish, bounced in the very first round of the Games). Gheshlaghi is off to a meager 4-2-1 start in the pros but is coming off two competitive bouts against two different 5-0 prospects from Russia in a SD loss and MD draw.

    Round 1

Gheshlaghi jabbing high. Savitsky jabbing low. Savitsky now the only person jabbing, stalking. Gheshlaghi avoids being trapped on the ropes by hurtling in toward Savitsky throwing wild looping shots. Sharp jabs on the bellt from Savitsky. Flush counter 1-2 by Savitsky while Gheshlaghi came in with an axing overhand. Gheshlaghi stunned slightly. Heavy left hook by Gheshlaghi bashing his way inside and down goes Savitsky! Commentators sound startled.

    10-8 Gheshlaghi

Gheshlaghi just forced a messy inside exchange and caught Savitsky with his feet crossed and his arms down. Legit knockdown.

    Round 2

Gheshlaghi is hopping around, keeping his legs together, and his gloves up over his nose. Savitsky reaching out with the left jab, probing, turning in place in the middle of the ring, watching for openings. Gheshlaghi ducking, laterally rolling to either side, coming in from a jumble of directions to keep Savitsky guessing. Counter right hand by Savitsky. Gheshlaghi swings and just misses with some powerful overhands. Savitsky looks annoyed with Gheshlaghi's antics and awkwardness, standing and waiting for him with his hands by his sides. Counter right hand by Savitsky as Gheshlaghi rushes him.

    10-9 Savitsky

    19-18 Gheshlaghi

    Round 3

Savitsky jabbing Gheshlaghi's body. Heavy raking shots up top by Gheshlaghi, just short. Savitsky showboats a bit, scoring a jab whlie twirling his right fist behind his back to play to the crowd. MASSIVE hooking combo by Gheshlaghi, whiffing with the first two but connecting on a third that catches Savitsky backing into the ropes and drops him HARD. Savitsky beats the ref's count but rattled to his core. Gheshlaghi with some more freewheeling hooks jumping in and another one splatters Savitsky on the canvas. Again the ref grabs his gloves, asks if he's okay, and clears him. Overhand rights and left hooks on the head by Gheshlaghi, and a barrage of hard shoveling shots on the body. Ref jumps in as Savitsky flails helplessly against the ropes.

    TKO3!!

Wow, wasn't expecting that result at all.

Titov's new golden boy got exposed, and the powerful Persian slugger proved he's much better than his record suggests.

Savitsky's coach staring a hole through him. You'd think Savitsky ran over his puppy.
