Main event halfway in now, damn it. Got sucked into work and hoped the co-feature would buy me some time.

Samedov shaded the 5th. Good tight southpaw* battle. Both doing lots of clever inside work, level-changing and throwing shots from a variety of angles and altitudes to try and bypass each other's guards. Good body work from both.

*edit: it turns out the Armenian actually is a switch-hitter (listed orthodox on BoxRec and going back & forth here attempting to disrupt Samedov)

Both the Armenian (training and residing in Miami Beach, FL) and the Azerbaijani-Russian are 30 years of age and bring in fairly positive records. Samedov is 16-1, his only defeat coming by SD (in his sophomore year, going for the vacant Russian lightweight title in just his seventh bout), and Grigoryan is 16-2-1, coming off two consecutive blemishes (one loss and one draw, both majority decisions).

Samedov with the better jab at range, accurately splitting Grigoryan's thumbs and pressing his third eye button, and with the heavier right hooks in the pocket. Grigoryan with the better & lengthier inside combinations, as both southpaw and orthodox.

6th 10-9 very close to Samedov

KO7!! Samedov walked him onto a counter right hook. Grigoryan managed to scrape himself up but was too wobbly.

That was definitely a KO that was more about timing and precision than raw power. It makes for two consecutive stoppages for Samedov, but just his 7th overall in 18 bouts - and of his previous half a dozen, two were from injury and one a corner retirement.

He also has been down several times in his career already. You had better damn well be a good fighter if you're carrying below-average power and chin. :nono:

They just showed a bunch of highlights. Main event aside, this was a card that did NOT make the A-sides look particularly good.

Moderately hyped 5-0 heavyweight prospect, Maxim Babanin, seemingly went life and death with 6-13-2 fellow six foot tub of lard German Skobenko. Don't hold your breath for Babanin to amount to anything.

In the co-main, which I didn't get to see the finish of live, underdog Alexander "The Caspian Tiger" Kotov (8-7-1) avoided falling to a .500 record by obliterating young Adleiba with an overhand right the overconfident Georgian never saw coming while backing up, sailing past his lazy midrange defense.

They're now replaying Khariton Agrba vs. Julius Indongo from last November, if anyone's interested.

Agrba vs. Indongo was a funny KO. Agrba loaded up on a bunch of home run swings and whiffed badly until he found the mark with that left uppercut almost by accident. Indongo wasn't even defending all that superbly, he was just protected for a time by Agrba's display of Staw Wars stormtrooper aim.

Once something connected, the Namibian's glass jaw did what it do.

Oh, now I see why there was buzz around Babanin. He was a good amateur, bronze medalist at the AIBA world championships in 2019, and defeated Joyce in WSB.

All well and fine but doesn't mean you're going to be worth a hill of beans in the pro game. :deal:
