I just watched a bunch of YT videos of this kid after looking up his amateur record and was expecting to see a very technically sound and skilled fighter with his amateur pedigree. What. The. ****. Is. That. ****? Guy looks ****ing awful technically, I mean I have never seen someone with such a novice style do so well in the AM's. I'll give him one thing, he's fast as hell and explosive as hell, but he wings these ridiculous punches from all over the place and just jumps into the pocket with his chin up in the air for anyone to ring. How has this guy not been stretched yet? He has some amazing tools, but mother of god is his boxing heinous.
sometimes fighting like that is what makes someone so hard to beat. Ali was not technically sound as a matter of fact Dundee said when he first got him he did everything wrong so he changed just a few things and left the rest alone. Same with Vitali Klitschko he is so awkward you can't get proper sparring to prepare for him. Simply bringing in tall sparring partners is not good enough because nobody else fights like he does with his hands down and using the lean back style and having to worry about counter slapping left hooks and right hands. Take away the awkwardness and Vitali would be a very beatable fighter and much easier to land on and win rounds.
Good points, that's also what I was thinking when I was watching him vs Chakhiev, he's just so ****ing awkward that other boxers don't know how to deal. I hate that chin talk, but this guy has to have a titanium chin the way he jumps in with all his weight behind him and at the speed he does with his chin straight up in the air begging to be hit. I've seen him cracked a few times solidly and he just blinked it off. Regardless, I absolutely HATE watching this guy, his style is so ugly and aggravating in there.
This is the guy that won a silver medal in the last Olympics right? I wonder when he'll turn pro. The Italians will probably go nuts over this HW.
I watched him in 2008 haven't seen him yet this Olympics. I saw a Super Heavyweight fight on Wednesday that looked like a barroom brawl. No combination punching, no footwork, clinching, wrestling, falling all over the place. It was awful.
Yea, that's the one. I don't think he is turning pro though, pretty sure he's already 30 years old. Seriously though, not sure I have ever seen such a big guy with that kind of speed and explosiveness, but it's almost all totally negated with his atrocious form. He fights with an in and out ambush style but manages to make it look fugly.
Saw him win silver in the last Olympics. Haven't seen any of his amateur fights. Sounds like he's cruising for a bruising eventually, but I'm sure it's relative to his confidence in any given fight. Will check out some reels for sure.
Seen him live last year at world series of boxing final. It was the worst fight i've ever seen, not a fan friendly style at all.
saw him on wsb. hes extremely hard to watch. hes got a punch and grab kind of style. with his athleticism, he should be more entertaining
One was the American can't remember where the other one was from. That Heavyweight from Canada looks decent he at least has shown skills.
He grabs way too much and I don't think he will go pro. He's already married and has kids and 30 years old. This is what happens when you don't get trained right, you got a lot of raw talent but terrible trainers. Italy sucks at boxing. They need to import some eastern european trainers.
