Which is precisely why your opinion on anything has just stopped counting.

    I'm sure:
    Robinson
    Burley

    I'd favor:
    Gavilan

    50/50
    Hearns

Leonard? Best for best, that's already settled. Gotta go with Panama.

Trinidad plays right into Duran's hands, no question. His movement was limited and Duran would not find it difficult to get inside him. And at 147lbs Trinidad was floored by mediocre fighters nowhere near Duran's level. Mid round stoppage for Duran, maybe even early.

Margarito probably lasts the distance and handily gets his ass handed to him via the scorecards.

Mosley's speed would cause Duran problems. But while he did have a bit of Leonard in him he doesn't have the slick movement to constantly keep out of harms way. Mosley was an aggressive boxer/puncher who liked to flurry at mid-range. He's probably get stopped in the late rounds of a highly competitive fight.

I think that night in montreal duran could have beaten any welter in history, robinson included. The combination of intensity, defense, offence, inside skill, outside skill, patience, strength, experience, stamina and power were awesome.
I think the best chance of beating duran would be hearns early (not likely at 147) ,though i think duran could stop tommy late.

Perfect response to that post Pea. Mosley, Trinidad, Margarito. The idea that any one of them could live with that Duran is a ****ing horrid joke.

Thanks for the comment on the thread amigo.

I do see where you're coming from with this comment:

I do agree that if ray had of boxed in montreal, he probably would have won

But I hope you see my point too that IMO that statement really just means:

If Leonard had fought a completely different and much better fight, he would've won regardless of what Duran did

But he didn't. The fight was not Leonard's to change. The choice was not his to make between box and brawl. On that night, he met one of the greatest fighters of all-time in rampant form. Duran was the one in control, Leonard could not do anything to turn the tide, it wasn't a choice of box or brawl, it was fight as hard as he could to survive against a furious relentless threshing machine opponent who would not allow him to dictate how the fight went. Leonard did his best, and he was beaten by the better man.

    To me, the statement:

I do agree that if ray had of boxed in montreal, he probably would have won

can basically be applied to any fight in history.

(this is a purposefully crude and absurd example just to show how far this principle can be taken)
If Amir Khan had slipped Prescott's hook and avoided KO in the 1st, he would've stopped him not long after. But he didn't. Because his defence isn't good enough to avoid shots all night. The defeat was not because of Khan's decision to keep his hands low and therefore if he kept them up he would've won, the decisive factor was Prescott's punching that he couldn't avoid.

You see my point here mate?

Duran was a different fighter from Leonard 1 to the rematch...Dundee knew he was partying heavy and could not get back in shape for november,,,Duran was hanging out at Victors Spanish cafe in N.Y. a Big Coke hangout and Duran had the tendency to blow up(lol) after a fight. I think Duran at lightweight was the best version but the Duran for Leonard 1 would have given anyone a good fight including Leonard of the 2nd fight. Basilio ,SRR.Hearns would have been trouble but IMO none would be a blowout for that Duran......Roberto was not always at his best shape(Dejesus 1) but his greatness prevailed, as you move up in weight it can be dangerous
