Solid fighter. Def HOF. Not sure about ATG though. He was weak mentally and basic uit once he started losing. Also have to wonder how much his improperly rapped hands helped him.
Trinidad became a top 50 ATG during his legendary run and destruction at WW. He became a top 30 ATG when he unified the 154 division. He became a top 15-20 ATG once he knocked out the reigning WBA champ in his first fight there. :yep
He couldn't even beat Wright, who out boxed him with ease. The fight may have been at middleweight but we all know both were really natural light middles and I can't see how the extra weight would have made any difference. Hopkins was better at middle and Oscar was better at welter, so with hindsight Tito was never really the best in any division he fought in. He was a very exciting fighter to watch though but he was one dimensional. I was rooting for him in the De La Hoya fight but he was totally baffled in that fight by Oscar's movement and was very fortunate with the scoring. He then had the fight with Vargas who I didn't like but then Tito used tactics to get over a rough spot and that turned me against him.
I usually agree with you, but not on this one. Trinidad is a great boxer, but imho not top 20 atg at all. And all that stuff about illegal bandage.... mmmm... :nono Though, I repeat, wonderful fighter I'm big fan.
Tread starter exaggerate a bit but what Trinidad had that fighters now day lack is nuts He was willing to fight anyone even was willing to fight Roy Jones in His prime when Tito was a jr middleweight, He gived Winky one million of His purse just to accept the fight, the same Winky nobody was willing to fight. He will be missed His fights where truly energetic and His insane stamina and recuperation power was ATG.
