Lewis Is the best heavyweight since Muhammad Ali. The best heavyweight of my lifetime, and would come out on top against many ATG heavyweights. ;)

When I was a mod & a chat host in chat rooms we checked the IP #s of the persistant alt makers that trolled & harassed members & IP banned them
    that stopped the problem

    Here are the facts:

brutally stopped twice by journeymen with one punch--the straight right.

arguably lost to an old Holyfield in their second fight.

best win is Golota who sued his physician and won for giving him a drug that adversely affected his performance in that fight.

all notable names are past prime with the one that wasn't past prime being a lucky stoppage due to cuts.

I'm no Klit****, just a Lewis revisionary.

Edit: I'm gonna admit though, Lewis would be a H2H nightmare for any HW, but that doesn't mean that his career isn't largely smoke and mirrors.

Lewis knocked out two times, yet Lewis fans claim he had the best chin in boxing history.........................well, he did not. Split decision over Mercer, his face was busted up. I thought Mercer beat him. Against Tua, Lewis held the entire fight. Mavrovic really gave Lewis a lot of trouble the entire fight. Mavrovic was a very small heavyweight and was sick, which is the reason he had to retired from boxing.....................

Certainly not overrated, but he was clearly beatable.

I think head to head he would have beaten almost or maybe all great HW's of the past and present in a best of 3 though. Yes, that includes prime Klits, Louis, Ali, Tyson and Foreman.

He would have never had huge winning streaks in any modern era though, but probably quite unbeatable in the ye olde ones (so much bigger as his opponents).

There are only two reasons Lummox is rated so high. The main one, is that he's the only decent heavyweight british can brags about.

Even tough he won an olympic medal for Canada, was born Jamaican and only picked britain later for cash and recognition. Because let's say it, Canada can't offer that much support, negotiation power, or fan base compared to Britain.

British were, and still are, so desperate for any heavyweight, anyone, to brag about, they swing on Lummox's ***** like there is no tomorrow.

The second reason, smaller, as to why he's so overrated, is that he somehow managed to get a victory over another overrated fighter in Vitali klitschko.

A Vitali that tryed to get a match with Lummox for months, with Lummox that made pretty clear he wanted no part of either Klitschko, before Vitali managed to pay Kirk Johnson out of his match with Lummox and jumping in in his place.

With two weeks notice, while Lummox has had his full training camp in preparation for the fight.
Somehow, british still lies and switches the sides in the story, pretending it was Lummox the one with the two weeks notice. Pathetic.

Vitali then went on fighitng the most re****ed way he ever fought in his career, completely outsmarted and outboxed, used as he was to fight with 5 and more inches of height advantage over small brawlers, and having never faced (in his entire career, till his retirement) a tall, rangy type of fighter.

Still, Lummox was in trouble with single punches, and spent half the fight grabbing Vitali's neck. Emmanuel, in the corner, was concerned, but had some useful tips.

**** like "Vitali always crosses his legs, try to push him a little with the jab to unbalance him and tire him". Things like those worked wonder against the former (never really former) kickboxer with no really boxing skills or experience.

Vitali then suffered a cut, that never suffered again, that Lennox never caused in anyone else, not even in people he battered for 12 rounds, a cut that is generally never seen in any weight category, no matter the beating.

A cut that has a rodicolous probability to ever happen in any boxing match. That's why it is tought the cut was opened by Lennox's gloves tapes, and it wouldn't be strange since those were the kind of tricks and insight Emmnauel was famous for.
Let's not forget how his former pupil Holyfield was famous as one of the dirtiest boxer ever. How Lummox himself had an entire repertoire of holding with one arm, hitting with the other one, grabbing, pushing, hitting late, etc.

Anyway, from then on, as Emmanuel suggested him, Lummox focused all his jabs on Vitali's cuts.

Still, Vitali managed to be ahead on the scorecards, and to be slighly less gassed than the spent Lummox (who always, always had gas troubles in his entire career), when the fight was stopped against Vitali and his corner's will.

At this point, the boxing rules states that when a fight is stopped for medical reasons, the victory is given to the boxer ahead on the scorecards. Hence, the victory went to Vitali, but somehow was changed to Lummox, who was so tired and surprised himself he could barely believe it and celebrate.

The public was booing, and cheering Vitali, that challenged Lummox for a rematch in front of worldwide cameras. Lummox, with the face of one thinking "leave me alone, Vitali, pls, what did i ever do to you?", promised him a rematch.

Months later, still refusing to face Vitali again in spite of the rematch being worth more than 100 millions, the public demanding it, his promise, and the wbc putting Vitali as his mandatory, seeing as he couldn't have fought anyone else outside Vitali or Wladimir, Lummox preferred to retire, spending the following years ranting against the Klitschkos and offering free lessons and tips to all their opponents. Go figure.

Extremely overrated. Besides the good points you make, it's worth pointing out that Lennox ducked the following fighters:

    1. Vladimir Klitschko
    2. Chris Byrd
    3. Prime Mike Tyson
    4. Prime Evander Holyfield
    5. Prime Tony Tucker

Instead of fighting prime Tyson and the other top dogs in that era, Lennox hid in England and fought Euro-bums.

And he wanted no part of anyone who had any boxing skill. That's why he ducked Byrd and Vlad, and fought cab drivers like Botha and Golota instead.

Emanuel Steward was a great match-maker, as Freddie Roach is. That's the main attribute of a good trainer.:deal

    That's not a legitimate excuse.

Vitali was preparing to fight Boswell on the undercard of the Lewis/Johnson fight when Johnson pulled out injured. He and Lewis had the exact same amount of preparation time as each other.

And having "nearly knocked Lewis out early" isn't good enough. Vitali could even knock Lewis off his feet, let alone knock him out.

I'd suggest that, just possibly, Vitali was brought up because this thread is about Lennox Lewis, his career and his record and Lennox fought and beat Vitali. You cant really exclude Vitali from discussion about Lewis's career just because you don't like the fact that he lost.

Wlad never chased a fight with Lewis and only showed any interest in fighting him in 2002 and even then he said he wouldn't be ready until 2004 at the earliest. Cant really say Lewis ducked a fighter who wasn't trying to fight him.

Acceptable to claim he ducked in this regards but it must also be recognized that Byrd's promoter didn't want to make the fight and instead favoured one between two of his own fighters for the vacant title and paid Lewis to drop the belt.

Arguably Tyson's "prime" was over before the 1990's began. Lewis didn't even reach the world stage as a pro until 1992 and Tyson had been sent to prison by then. When Tyson was released and after he'd been bumped ahead of Lewis for a shot at Bruno and the WBC title he chose to fight Seldon and Holyfield instead before getting suspended.

You cant say Lewis ducked a fighter that was in prison or suspended for most of the decade and chose different opponents when he had the opportunity to fight Lewis.

Would have fought if Holyfield hadn't lost to Bowe in 1992 and Moorer in 1994. The failure of a fight between Lewis and Prime Holyfield happening is Holyfield's more than it is Lewis's.

Was in his prime in the 1980's when Lewis wasn't even a pro. Cant call that a duck.

If you set out to take apart a person career, its easy to do.

It would be massively easy to do with the Klitschkos too.
