You guys are aware that any credible boxing commission allows a member of the opposing camp to watch the hands get wrapped, and have the wraps and gloves examined by officials, correct?

I'm not condoning what Margarito tried to do but if he has been getting away with it for years then the camp of everyone he's ever fought aside from Mosley is stupid. Why would you ever allow your fighter to step into the ring with someone whose wraps and gloves haven't been examined? In addition any boxing commission that allowed him to step into the ring without examining his wraps and gloves is also incompetent

A voice of sanity in an ocean of insane witch-hunters. There is NO evidence, none whatsoever, that Margarito had ANYTHING in his wraps in any prior fights!

Maybe they thought that the boxing commision official would do thier job, you are aware that they already had 1 hand done right in the presence of an official right?

So you would blame someone's laziness and stupidity on the incompetence/laziness/stupidity of another?

As someone with sound ethics I would lay all the blame on the fighter/team that perpetrated the illegal action. Wouldn't you? :deal

No both are at fault BUT the CSAC official DID NOT DO HIS JOB, it is quite obvious that Margo and his trainer have done this before as they already had 1 hand done before Richardson even entered the room, most trainers don't think someone will actually pull a Panama Lewis but it happens, IMO Mandatory guidelines will have to be put in place to make sure these things don't happen anymore BUT Margo was Caught on Saturday, who knows how many times he enterered the ring with loaded gloves.

In terms of philosophical rhetoric and ethics you would be right

In the real world you have to cover your own ass and in this case your fighter's ass. For any camp to allow their fighter to step into the ring without exercising their rights to watch the opponent's hands be wrapped and, if the opponent has already wrapped their hands demand that they are re-wrapped, is completely irresponsible and idiotic

I agree, however the offending party is more at fault, IMO this is not the only incident Margo has been involved in. This going to lead to new rules with respect to how handwraps are inspected IMO.

Of course the person cheating is more to blame but there are already 900 threads about that, it seems to be a bigger deal than the ass kicking Shane laid on him which would have happened illegal wraps or not

But yeah there needs to a major reevaluation of the system and I'm shocked that experienced teams like the ones behind Cotto and Cintron would allow their guys to step into the ring without examining his wraps and gloves, that is if that indeed happened

Perhaps so, but let's not cloud the real issue. If the person responsible (and fully accountable even in a legal sense) for subversive behaviour had a shred of honour, and followed the rules in the first place, no-one would have to be uber vigilant. It is sad to think that a competitive advantage in a sport that is already so inherently dangerous would be illegally sought in a manner that could result in permanent damage or even death - and then to make matters worse fans of the sport turn the tables on the fighter/team that is playing by the rules. Sorry, that's a distortion to me. But then, you always did have an "odd" perspective on things. :D
