Super good **** on gettin the autograph. My wife did pretty much the same for me with the gloves, she just went on her own, completely without me knowing and got them. I **** when she gave them to me. when we lived in Maine, she found the gym where Joey Gamache Sr. still trains, in the lewiston armory, and we went in talked to him and he agreed to train me after watching me, for $25 a year :yep.

Funny you were that into boxing at that young an age, I have 1 son, and another Son due in two weeks, I hope they share my passion for boxing. I would love to carry on the heritage with them, so they can spread it with their generation.

Forgot to mention, I have close family in Roanoke, my Aunt owns a word of mouth hair salon, and I currently am living in Southern Maryland (looking for a boxing gym). I have family in Jersey as well. Alot of east coast roots too.

Boxing stories are great, because I've had some immensely exciting moments because of our sport, so I know there are people that have had them as well, so it's fun to hear, because we can really imagine the level each others excitement.:good

Floyd vs. Hatton was probably the best night of boxing for me because of the great group of guys we had together to watch it. The fight also had a lot of tension and it was two undefeated guys fighting.... One of the most fun nights of boxing I've ever had.

Yea I was robbed of this one.

At the time of the fight, I was deployed to the desert Qatar, and working out of a tent, but we had a higher up get satellite tv hooked up in our tent of all places, and the armed forces network showed the hbo ppv for free to military. And as they were walking out my dickhead of a boss at the time, made me go help move a plane, just so I'd miss it. And was laughing at me because I missed it. God damn I was heated.

Yep, I'd have lost it also. It was a great fight to watch live, particularly when you factor in all of the pre-fight hype and the followings of both fighters being undefeated and everything, etc..

Well, I'd be lying if I said I was into boxing like 100 percent from that age on. After that fight I don't really have any memories until the Foreman fight. Around the time Lewis was fighting Tua is when I want to say I really really got into it and I never fell out of it. I also around this time red the Thomas Hauser biography on Muhammad Ali, and seeing the inside of training camps and inside the minds of the great fighters of that era really hooked me for life.

I actually went to school in Radford, VA, while my wife was getting her masters there as well. I worked at the Roanoke Times for about 7 months doing high school sports for them.

Also, I grew up in Winchester, VA, if that means anything to you, and lived in Harrisonburg until 7 months ago when we moved to Las Vegas. I've gotten to cover about 6-7 cards so far, with the best one being the JuanMa-Marquez card. Oh, also, I was born in Annapolis, MD.

I just recently got into boxing (at 27 years of age) my neighbor is actually an MMA trainer but agreed to teach me what he knows about stand-up, with the thought of me heading to a real boxing gym in another month or two. Up until about 2-3 months ago I hadn't done anything for like 7 years, so it's been a process getting into some kind of shape.

This one was special becaus Juan Manuel is my favorite fighter .I got to carry his WBA belt into the ring with him that night! the feeling was awsome. Can't imagine the feeling for the fihhters as they walk to the ring for these big fights. Thank you Juan Manuel. Fight on Brother!!

Yea I grew up in Virginia Beach, and alot of my close family still lives there, my Grandmother owns a beach house in Sandbridge. And my Aunt lived in Va Beach to until moving to Roanoke like 11 years ago or so. And my wife's aunt lives in Annapolis, so I'm consistently all over between Maryland and Va beach. And I just left Maine after doing 5 years up there in the military, which is how I found Gamache Sr.

It's crazy how small the world can be sometimes, wouldn't be suprised if we've crossed paths before.

And hey it's cool your training, like they tell me at the gym (I'm only 24 but still don't have an amateur record), it's never too late. Ironically my best friend (Cody Smith, currently on the front page of http://www.viciousfightwear.com/) is an undefeated mma amateur that trains with Dorin Spivey and his crew in strictly boxing alot, so obviously I work with him when I go home (at least once a month). It's funny cause, although I don't like mma at all (I do respect it), I train at a primarily mma gym in Portsmouth, Va (Bushido mma) which has a official size boxing ring, and learn alot of good boxing stuff all the time. Dorin's trainer is the classic old school guy, and is always pouring boxing knowledge into who he trains, so I always try to listen in and pick up anything.

It's awesome your covering cards, I would love to someday, whether it be writing, refing, or anything inbetween . And holy ****, JMM/Katsidis, were you able to keep your composure seeing that one? Hope your all the best in your career, man, maybe I'll stop stalling and turn pro eventually, or do something to get me more involved in the sport I love.:good

    Good **** man :good

I can't imagine how electric I'd be to walk with my boy or favorite fighter down to the ring for a fight that big.

I have walked with my best friend to the ring during one of his amateur fights, and that alone made the fight alot more intense to me.

amateur, it was my first ever, which is what made it special. the guy was known for being very skilled, but a little chinny. his eyes were still open so it was a little worrying at first, but he was fine.

he ran right into it, you know, because he wobbled me backwards., you know when the timing is just right and it connects perfectly.

edit: i had stopped a few guys, but never laid someone out like this before, especially when the crowd went silent

    Good for you man.

Yea whenever I've been wobbled and stumbled backwards, exploding whenever the guy went to pounce on me usually had a good result.

But I don't know what it feels like to know my record will be effected win or lose, as I only have trained, and sparred. So I know staying clear headed when in the middle of your fight is a different story.

My happiest boxing memory is a bit strange as I've seen a fair few big fights (pretty much everything hatton-may onwards) on tele and I've seen some amateur stuff live. But my happiest memory is quite recent, I'd turned down the offer of hitting the town on a Saturday night to stay up and watch pwill-maravilla 2 live on a shitty satellite feed of hbo at what-the-****-o'clock in the morning. I had some money Sergio and I wanted to watch the fight live and try and score it myself so I could at least come and whinge on here in the morning. I was bored waiting so I raided my dads whiskey stash and had a couple of Ginger beer-whisky mixes. So I was a bit pissed when the main event rolled around and my attempts at scoring the 1st round were derailed by inebriation and indignation at the arselicking from the hbo team. I was really worried bout Sergio getting jobbed by the judges then..... BOOM!!!!! I was in shocked silence for about 10 seconds then I started screaming 'you got knocked the **** out son!' over and over. Woke my mam and dad up, got bollocked for waking them up, dad went nuts when he saw I'd drank a 3rd of a bottle of whiskey! I couldn't get to sleep for hours, I was too excited. Only 3 times in my life has sport gave me a bigger buzz. When I was in Spain this summer when they won the would cup and the wholeplace went insane for 24 hours, when sunderland beat Newcastle 2-1 at home 2 years ago and when I scored my 1 and only goal for my 11 a side team and we won (I'm a defender and hardly ever get a chance to haha)
