If Floyd is so great, why did the people who's opinions really mattered ( people at the BWAA ) gave the fighter of the decade to Pac instead?

I thought Floyd won the fight as well to be honest. But I remember quite a few people thinking that De La Hoya had won... You don't hear a whole lot of people saying it now, but at the time of the fight some people found it controversial. I know, because I remember arguing that Mayweather had won it. It shouldn't be that surprising, almost all split decisions court a little controversy...
