On the eve of tomorrow's bout and quite frankly because I haven't been excited about it, I'm going to watch and score the first fight now. I don't recall my exact score from 2017 but do know that I had GGG winning. Here we go. ...
Round 1: Canelo 10-9 (close) -- I like Canelo's explosive turns from defense to offense in this feeling out round
Round 2: Clear Canelo round. Much crisper shots & good body work. GGG seems to be having problems finding the range 2-0 Canelo
I had it 115-113 GGG Rounds 1-3: Canelo Rounds 4-9: GGG Round 10: swing round, I edged it to GGG Rounds 11-12: Canelo
Round 3: More Canelo mastery working offense to defense, hitting the body and keeping GGG off-balance. However, GGG appeared to get going late in the round and landed a nice left hook. Still a Canelo round but I wonder if he's slowing down some. 3-0 Canelo
Round 4: Clear GGG round. Canelo's work output slows dramatically, and GGG trods forward and begins throw a variety of power shots rather than relying solely on a range-finding jab. 3-1 Canelo
Round 5: First great round of the fight. Canelo did some nice work in spots, but he simply got outworked and Golovkin landed powerful shots of his own. 3-2 Canelo
Round 6: I actually like Canelo's work here, landing cleaner shots so I gave him the round. Close, tho. GGG definitely is applying a great deal of pressure and Canelo is forced to be more economical than he would like (foreshadowing his career at 175....). 4-2 Canelo
Round 7: Another close round for me. I think one takeaway so far is that I don't think GGG is landing the *quality* of shot he normally does. Having said that, Canelo did a lot of backing away and potshotting this round, so I'm going GGG. 4-3 Canelo
Round 8: I dislike this version of Canelo, who lands 3-4 great shots and spends the rest of the round playing defense. GGG is walking him down now, getting hit some but landing his own and is clearly dictating the space. 4-4
Round 9: Emphatic barrage to start the round by Golovkin. Canelo seemed to recover some toward the end of the round, but this was a clear one for GGG. 5-4 Golovkin
I had it 116-112 GGG, I don’t think it’s a complete robbery since there was 1 or 2 rounds that could’ve gone either way
Round 10: Second great round of the bout. Canelo dominated the first 30 seconds then spent the rest of the round on his bike. Thought GGG took this one clearly on that basis. Earlier in the fight I thought Canelo mixed offense and defense; here, he's just taking large portions of the round off by moving away without punching. 6-4 Golovkin
