Re-signed to Setanta for £3.33 per month for 3 months yesterday

I have been with Setanta since Calzaghe v Kessler. As a result of 1 of the posts on here I phoned Setanta yesterday and said I wanted to cancel my subscription because the football season has ended and wanted to save the money during the Summer, but may sign up again in September.

The rep on the line said I would have to pay £14.50 to reconnect later, whereby I said that is still cheaper than paying for wasted months.

She then offered to 1/2 the subscription to £6.50 per month for 3 months. I said I heard of a £3.33 deal, she said that deal closed last week. I said it is still advertised on your website. She apologised for her 'mistake' and said that deal is still there but only applies to those with a particular reference number. I then quoted 3333, and she gave up and gave the deal I was looking for.

My direct debit for July, August and September will now be £3.33 only and then return to the new rate in October.

I did better this year than last year where I could only get them down to £5.00 per month for 3 months

Yh, they try the 6.50 for 3 months some people take that but if you keep pushing you'll get the £3.33 for 3 months. Now that is a bargain.

Well done for getting a discount colinthfc, but in my opinion offering discounts to people threatening to quit is not a good move from Setanta.

Ntl went down this route, and at one point all you had to do was ring up for a discount and you got it. Problem is they ended up with hardly anybody on a standard tariff and their billing system became a joke, not to mention all the profit they lost.

Those customer service folks at Setanta dont have internet, just intranet so they can't see what is on the website, but they know about the £3.33 deal. It really is for nothing.

I'm surprised at how fickle people can be. One minute we're looking to "Save Setanta", then we're looking to bankrupt them by paying them peanuts. It's not as if it's expensive to start with.....

I suppose people will moan again in three months time when the discount ends.

Nice one mate. I did that friday. Didn't threaten to quit just said I'd like to know what they're offering loyal customers who had recommended them to friends and praised their boxing coverage to the hilt.

The only reason I subscribed to Setanta was because it was 3.99 per month for 3 months. I wouldn't have subscribed otherwise, and therefore they wouldn't have had any money off me, so 3.99 is better than nothing from their perspective.

This remains to be seen, especially considering Setanta's record of financial awareness.
I can't see how they can make much profit from £3.99, so what happens walk people walk away after 3 months?

A small amount of money is better than no money at all. Plus when they are going to new investors, they can increase the figure for the amount of subsribes they have, the more subsrcibes they more viability for people to put money into the channel.

I suppose that they are hoping people like what they see, and when push comes to shove they will subscribe at the end of the three months.

Thats basically what I'm considering. I've enjoyed the basketball, UFC and obviously the boxing, but I'm not arsed about football, so it really depends how much they charge at the end of the 3 months.

If its a good channel that I will watch often then I'll subsribe, if not, I won't. Thats the angle they are working I think.

For £3.99 I would expect Setanta to be asking something in return, such a signing up to a 12 month contract. That's the only way to ensure loyalty, (for a year, anyway).
